People sewed their own cloths back then, some even wove their own fabrics... With the loss of the American Textile industry and even clothing industry I think it would be very wise for us all to get back to weaving our own cloth and sewing our own cloths. And yes, the treadle machines and manufacturing them again could be a nice industry for someone to get back into. |

I have a newer computerized White that will hardly sew anything thicker than muslin. I also have a 60's era Singer which has a bit more power, but still stalls on heavy material. Some of those old treadle machines would go through anything, including tough stuff like leather. A machine like that would be very handy to have... |

Thrift stores, yard sales, flea markets, or Ebay. |
