I remember one year 2nd grade of elementry school. Was put in a special class. Where I watched video's on E.S.P. and took visual and auditory tests. I ended up in third grade going to a similar type of class for "kids who were different". After that it stopped though. I ended up moving to about 4 other schools after all went back to normal. 2nd grade though was pretty odd. Thats when I learned what E.S.P was. Thinking about it now I'm like WTF! This was in 1988.

I wonder too, why was I chosen to be in the program. I did teach myself how to read at 4, but that's not so remarkable. I just wanted to know really badly and I kept asking my grandmother what every word I saw was. I eventually figured out how to sound them out and read since I knew the alphabet and the phonetics. I feel like a complete dumbass these days, fast forward 20 years or so. I've done nothing so special or fantastic in my life. I've worked quite a few jobs, served some time in the military, and traveled here and there...nothing special. Sadley the schools did not see me as a interesting or gifted person so they put me in a classroom of all kids with ADHD all day everyday. It was cool because I met alot of awesome artists, poets and musicians there ;)
 Quoting: Sunsetsky

In 1973 there was no such thing as ADHD...It was called not paying attention in class...My teacher was told...it was because I was gifted...and was bored in class...It's how I started in the MGM program...The difference was I would daydream in class...I was never unruly ...Because I was spanked as a kid...

"count to ten and open your eyes"
hypnosis
 Quoting: Joshua Flynn 5993664

Thought so, which likely means a large number of them were preprogrammed (because that is what hypnosis does) to do something, quite possibly later on. So you might be looking at a super intelligent sleeper cell of pseudo-agents. And such people were wondering why they had all turned up on specific forums...

I was a missed chicken, I.E. I was never deemed intelligent, gifted or talented. So no preprogramming. Someone obviously thought later on I was, as spiritual interference made me eventually end up here. In short, they might have programmed people to 'forget' stuff and not really query it too much, but it doesn't apply to me, and I tend to prise a lot of the important stuff out into the open.

It is odd. GATE would have represented 1-3% of the US population so perhaps roughly 6 million of us out there. I'm not a usual frequenter of this forum but I did come across it because I was, after decades, thinking about the program. I think part of the reason why we're congregating here is because this thread turns up. So, I don't think we've been pre-programmed to turn up here on specific forums. I think it's a natural gravity well.

The question should be at what point did we start thinking about these programs and why are we searching for information on it now? 2010 for me after I recognized signs of mass discontent without recalling ever being taught such a thing. My thoughts drifted to the gifted program at that point and that grew to an intensity this year after noting a high percentage of gifted were closely following recent protests.

Hey everybody! This phrase is spreading like wild fire? Pass it around!

When you go to the bathroom announce to those present.

"I've got to go take an [insert name here], wipe my [insert name here] and shake my [insert name here]."

So if you want a political statement - say,

"I gotta go take an Obama, wipe my Pelosi and shake my
Jerry Brown."

If you're a lady substitute "shake my" to "douche my".

I don't remember that much from elementary, but did anyone do the following?

- Draw and doodle with eyes closed and then asked what shapes you could see?

- Simply play with toy soldiers and other things on a small table-top sandbox?

That happened with a sole psychologist, not in a class.
Like many of you, I failed school because of boredom and a rebellious mind that wanted to challenge teachers and do more hands-on creative work, etc.
This is all I can remember. As for a class...I remember being in an after-school program, but I doubt it was Gate. I honestly can't remember anything but the 2 activities I wrote above.

Re: Were You Part Of The "Mentally Gifted Minds" Program In California Scools back in the 70's?
Just popping in. Been thinking about all this a lot. It's just that sort of disquieting thing. One of the phrases that I have been kind of dealing with is a perversion of a JFK quote, "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what they can do to you.". Whatever the intention behind it all, we were all still guinea pigs being subject to experimental learning and things that they should have probably left well enough alone. We'll probably never know the intention, who, what, where or why. Or even what all was involved. They saw to that when they destroyed our records after 5 years out of the program. I sincerely doubt that the gifted programs today are what we experienced back then. I've spoken with a number of more recent gifted program participants and they did not have "lights out" time like we did. Hypnosis inductions don't seem to be used anymore and that is a comfort. I think the pressures of the Cold War translated to pressures upon us. It's sad and rather alienating in some ways because it feels at times like I've been manufactured in a lab as opposed to just being human. Anyways, just thought I'd share my thoughts and mood on this subject so if anyone else is feeling similar, you know you're not alone.

Hope you're all well.

Sometimes I wish I could stop it though -- whatever it is that I do innately -- because I don't always want to hear everyone's troubles, and I am so polite that its hard to 'get away' once they start venting.

Same here. I'm always invoking the TMI rule. Perhaps we're the ones who couldn't be convinced to use our "powers" for the dark side? I tell people what they're doing when they do it, I never hide the fact I can read between their lines and see their thoughts by understanding their thought process. It's why I have a tight circle... I hate it when I can see lies and manipulation from people I'm supposed to be a friend to.

Re: Were You Part Of The "Mentally Gifted Minds" Program In California Scools back in the 70's?
All the kids I have kept up with from gifted are still fatalist. Mediocre at best. Why reach for the stars when the sky could fall at any moment. Did they think we were natural leaders that needed to be put in our place? Looking at the timeframe between then and now leads me to believe that's exactly how they thought. Gate students from the 70's are now in their late 30's to early 40's. That age range is perfectly suited to taking office, leading communities, mentoring the youth, etc... Why did they destroy what made us great? It is because the time of change is upon us. Without leaders, resistance to these changes becomes a disorganized mess. They destroyed the future leadership of the resistance when we were but babes.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1484199

Hey everyone. I bugged out of this thread for a while. Spent the last 2 days catching up. Glad to see its still going.

I think the above post I quoted is pretty close. I think we need to look past what we Want to be true or Wish were true. Yeah we're smart. Yeah we got fucked with. BUT. How good were They? Maybe the little. It we have left of memory or the feelings we still have- ie. patriotism leadership etc. are not traits they installed in us. Maybe that's what they missed? Think of it as a situation like the movie Terminator. They sent Arnie back to kill Johns mom before he was born. To prevent him from leading the resistance. Same thing here. By the 70's, tptb must have already had a pretty clear roadmap laid out all the way through today. People like us, if uneffected, would have posed a huge problem.

Go back and read my previous posts around pages 120 something I think. I told the story about finding my old Project Potential teacher in 1998, when I was 26. She remembered me.... Or so she says? She said. "Yes, I remember you, you were the boy that was always trying to help the other kids. You were so caring". Hmm. That was the one thing that stuck out in her memory after 15 years? Or maybe it was just a generalization because it was the main trait of all the PP students? Either way. Interesting.

I also said before, that we were simply part of a search. We didn't pass. We got wiped and left behind. This too I believe is a strong possibility. However, I really feel like we need to focus on Their shortcomings. Not on what they did do, but where they messed up. Or what they missed. Remember, this was a government program. They too make mistakes.

Oh and Observer. The apple thing! Holy crap!!! I never realized it before. But up untill about a year ago, I bought apples all the time... And hardley ever ate them. And untill you said it, I completely forgot about this:

"visualize your apple. Hold it in your hand. Smell it. Notice it's color. Now take a bite. Taste the apple. Feel the texture of the apple in your mouth. Taste the juice. Chew the apple. Now swallow it..."

WTF was that all about? I just remembered we did this all the time. We did it durring the low lights meditating time. The time where we would visualize floating up up through the roof to the beach or meadow under the tree...

I'll watch this thread some more for a few days. But honestly, like before, I can't stay too long. Something (someone) here, isn't right...?

If you're saying that our patriotism was something naturally present, I counter with the fact that they used to make gifted beneficiaries receiving related scholarships to sign affidavits avowing the disbelief in the overthrow of the US government. If you're saying that we have our own brand of patriotism, then I would agree. After all, the US Constitution and the Federalist papers are some of the most ingenious bits of work that I have seen. Sometimes I just question whether what we have now and what those documents represent are two entirely different things.

Hmm. That was the one thing that stuck out in her memory after 15 years? Or maybe it was just a generalization because it was the main trait of all the PP students? Either way. Interesting.

That's a trait that you and I share then. For as disconnected as I am, I still care very deeply and drop everything to help others in need.

However, I really feel like we need to focus on Their shortcomings. Not on what they did do, but where they messed up. Or what they missed. Remember, this was a government program. They too make mistakes.

And therein could lie a flaw in what they did. Since the time where I "broke down my apple", my ability to recollect many things has massively improved. I recall now like a normal person with an exception still around the gifted program. It could be that those memories haven't drifted in yet. Nowadays, when I remember something, it's contextually related to a conversation or something I saw (like normal memory--just very new to me still lol). I very strongly suggest that, if anyone had a fruit, removing that fruit from your life. I realized the possible significance of the apple when I was scouring for info on this subject. Apples were used in the MK-Ultra program (not that we were in a MK-Ultra program) to trigger memory blocks. So, you have your apples out and about in the world (amazing how many apples there are out there really when you think about it) and you have your visualization apple inside. The correlation between the two programs, especially since it was being used during hypnosis induction, is fairly obvious.

WTF was that all about? I just remembered we did this all the time. We did it durring the low lights meditating time. The time where we would visualize floating up up through the roof to the beach or meadow under the tree...

Did I mention the grassy meadow under the tree? I can't recall. Sandy beach and grassy meadow with a tree were the two self-hypnosis techniques that I've been using most of my life to help me sleep.

I'll watch this thread some more for a few days. But honestly, like before, I can't stay too long. Something (someone) here, isn't right...?

I'm past caring if someone is watching at this point. I'm most unhappy about all this and I think understandably so. They messed with children and it's not the first time. Even outside of programs like ours or MK-Ultra and any other conspiracy type thing, they have historically messed with children all the way to recent times. Just look up the testing of HIV medicines on foster children. They tested HIV experimental drugs on children who had inadequate protections or even someone to go ahead and defend them. We're talking infants to teens and the testing was government funded compounded by a high death rate. The ethics of that are wholly nonexistent. If they would do that, then sure they'd be more than happy to meddle with children's minds. After all, we're still alive, right? (Just ignore the suicide rates that the program doesn't feel like it needs to be quantified).

Re: Were You Part Of The "Mentally Gifted Minds" Program In California Scools back in the 70's?
Observer.

Yes, by Patriotism I mean a devotion to the principals laid out by the founding fathers. Which, as you said, is clearly not what we have today.

So tie that together with our devotion to helping others, and you can see how we may have posed a problem for Them. This is something I'm sure they could have identified easily and early on. All they needed to do was find the kids that were compassionate, social and intelligent.

As far as the grassy meadow. No I don't think your mentioned it? I know I did in my previous posts. It was the main theme of all of our sessions. Our teacher would turn the lights down, we'd close our eyes and she'd have us relax, then float out of our bodies, up through the celing, over the school, up into the clouds and come down in a grassy meadow under a big tree... I don't really remember what we did after that.. All I remember is floating back up and coming back into my body, counting down and opening my eyes. I did this so many times I couldn't tell you how many times.
Just to recap real quick. I was the first one in my school to go into this program- Project Potential it was called in AZ. I started it in 1st grade I believe, although it really may have even started in kindergarten. I say that because I do remember the room I was first tested in. And walking to and from that room. And it was my kindergarten class room I was walking too and from. However it wasn't until 1st grade that I started officially..? Anyway, I was in it untill 7th grade. That would have been about 1977-1985 roughly.

The other thing Ive been trying very hard to remember is who the other students were in the program with me. In the beginning there were only a handful of us. In the later years the program changed a little. It and there were maybe as many as 20-30 of us. I do remember that when it changed, it was more like 2 programs in 1. There were some students that were new to it. And they mostly did just advanced school work, like math. They weren't usually there every day for the other classes like some of the rest of us. I also remember there were new kids that would come and go that I believe weren't from our school. I was always asked to work with the on the different puzzles and audio video story book viewer machines etc.
My big concern is that I do know some of the other kids I was in this with we're kids that I eventually went to Jr High and high school with. Yet I can't remember a single one of them or their names, or even their faces. But I do remember a bunch of kids from all of my regular classes. It's as if they intentionally made us forget each other. I have a bunch of school friends as Facebook friends now. I've thought about just posting there and asking if any of them were in Project Potential? But for some reason, I just can't do it..
Ok all for now. Still trying to loosen back up to this thread. :)

How many had a disappointing trip to Disney World with the following attractions... It's a Small World, Pirates of the Carribean and Swiss Family Robinson... then zipped off to Epcot Center and remember very little about your trip until you realized you missed the parade and didn't get to visit Cinderella's castle? Weirdness... That week in FL I had a really weird psychic experience while roaming with my stepfather's neices and nephews. Like freaky weird where we were at a place I'd never been and I relayed the twisted history of it down to the last detail.

Pretty much. We were unknown variables.

My memory loss was really quite bad and I still have a lot of black holes surrounding the program. It's just everything else that is filling in for me. The grassy meadow caught my attention because it puzzled me why I also used that one and the beach but only the beach came up here. Solves a mystery--probably the same source.

Anyway, I was in it untill 7th grade. That would have been about 1977-1985 roughly.

We were in the program around the same time period then though I was a couple years older. That would explain why we have the same inductions most likely. If I recall correctly, the program directors were specially trained for it. We would have been subject to whatever was the popular flavor of the month for experimentation.

My big concern is that I do know some of the other kids I was in this with we're kids that I eventually went to Jr High and high school with. I experienced a huge amount of trepidation about the same issue and making an open query. My curiosity finally won over and I just asked who was in the program. It was interesting. The people that were in it responded with a simple statement of being in it whereas other former classmates who were not in it talked at greater lengths about our "super genius classes". None of the former gifted students expanded on anything or responded to any part of the conversation. Just a simple "I was in it" and that's it. I was the only former gifted that was doing any talking. The most surprising thing was WHO they were. They were all people that I was relatively close to or very close to all the way through high school.

Here's the twist: I remember who was in my 7th grade English, French, Health, PE, and Science classes. Even if I can't recall the names, I remember their faces, the classrooms, the teachers. I could find those exact same classrooms even now, almost 30 years later and point out where I sat. Yet, I couldn't remember the people that I was actually somewhat close to, had known since grade school, etc etc in that same year being in this program. I remembered them--just not that they were in it with me. Ours lasted to 8th grade, I believe.

I wouldn't doubt it if your results would be the same. I find that it is interesting to now know who those few were. They don't know about this because that is too scary to bring up. I don't know why, lol, but my gut shrivels at the thought, lol. Reminds me of that movie "Fight Club"--what's the first rule of gifted programs? Don't talk about gifted programs. :)

Ok all for now. Still trying to loosen back up to this thread. :)

I know what you mean. It's a hell of a thing, isn't it?
