Second item is a movie using a kaleidoscopic type of effect. When and where it was recorded was most likely San Antonio, Texas in 1957. Not sure if it was just messing around with a new toy or what though. It is the where, when and who that have me raising an eyebrow at it but like I said, don't know if it's nothing or something. It's just odd. Come across anything like that?

I watched one like that in the early 90s. I was told it was a locally made video for where I was in the PNW.

For posterity's sake, from Gowan's Trance, Art and Creativity:

"It goes without saying that any approach by the conscious mind to the numinous element is not without its dangers. Elsewhere (Gowan 1974:134) we have seen the traumatizing effect of the "not-me" on the young child at stage three, and we have detailed the dissociation occasioned by the premature rupture of the conscious overlay, exposing the collective preconscious in our discussion of developmental forcing (Gowan 1974:187). "

Gowan on human exotic abilities in Operations of Increasing Order:

Let us first define our terms. By "genius" we shall mean "possession of genii" (rather than a very high I.Q.). By "precocity" we shall mean not only accelerated accomplishment of developmental tasks, but the perfected completion of some extraordinary social skill at an amazingly young age. (These definitions avoid, to some extent, the tautology that if genius is defined as having a very high I.Q., and precocity is defined as a very high first derivative of intelligence with respect to time, namely rate, they are essentially the same.) Furthermore, our definition of genius is perhaps a poetic way of saying that access to right-hemisphere function is operant.

You're never taking these away from public discourse.
 Quoting: ArmchairObserver

This Gowan guy really needed to get a brick in the face.
 Quoting: Kaw-Liga 21747185

Well, he never did get a brick to the face. Instead, he ended up getting the position of executive director and president of the National Association of Gifted Children from 1975-1979. The more that I think about it, the more I realize that, in this country, the greater and more outlandish the claim and an almost disregard for human consequence seems to be heavily rewarded at a high level.

At the least, I think that gifted child programs suffered from a more severe case of group think than NASA did with the Challenger.

Yessir and I suspect that NASA still has interests in it. My daughter's friends are all in the current program in elementary school and one of them has talked about working on a project for NASA. Normally, I'd chock that up to kids just over exaggerating as kids are wont to do, but I've seen others on this thread with that same childhood TAG memory.

i just stumbled on this website. I was in one of the first mentally gifted programs in Los Angeles, in the late 60's. In retrospect, i feel like we were guinea pigs -- see how much they could throw at us and see how much we could absorb. I basically got most of my high school education before i finished the 6th grade. The trouble was that I was thrown back into a regular school after that, (we called it Junior High in those days, not middle school). I was a freak -- no social skills, because I had been isolated all those years with the others in my class. The same students moved together to each grade. We never interacted with the others in the school. It was like they didn't know what to do with us afterwards, made no provisions beyond elementary school. BTW -- although I understand many of us DID go on to brilliant lives and careers, I ended up totally burned outpoop by the time I had finished 9th grade. I would love to find information about any studies that were done to follow what happened to us "freaks" after they put us back into the general population.

Welcome to the Internet's Insane Asylum. You'll get that if you leave this thread to look at other threads here. The fact that we're so relatively stable and pragmatic on this thread is a comfort considering the location of the discourse.

I, too, felt pretty burnt out early on and like a guinea pig. Had a lot of resentment that I vented out in a variety of subtle ways from boundary pushing to deliberately mocking testing through pattern creation on the scantrons throughout high school. Biggest one was informing that I had plans to join the Socialist party at age 18 (was not serious, btw). May have been a significant mistake on my part in hindsight, lol. :(

As far as following up on us freaks (god I know that feeling well), the only evidence that I found of follow up examination was with Project Talent (the first tagging of the herd) and Terman's Termites. There are hints of perhaps something going wrong in that gifted "educators" (aka psychologists, psychiatrists and hypnotherapists) noted a possible increase in drug/alcohol abuse and problems with depression/suicide. *Almost forgot--they also noted that we were socially isolated but addressed that isolation not in repairing it properly but in attempts to find ways to make us so that we would still have the drive to be socially beneficial at the end of the day. However, no statistics were ever laid out publicly on that one and instead, the excuse of why this wasn't properly quantified was that it would be "too difficult" to measure. I saw the same excuse one other time in my life and that was in regards to atomic veterans and their families. The health disorders that possibly emanated from radiation exposure were also "too difficult" to adequately measure. I take it as they really didn't want to look in either case because that would have indicated that something went wrong.

It grieves me that you, too, felt like a freak and a guinea pig at the end of it all. No child should have ever grown up feeling like that, especially due to the activities of adults who should have known better. The biggest crime of the gifted program was their god damn group think.

There are organizations whose job it is to find children of the right genetic background for these projects. The best known was the CIA/FBI group called the Finders and programmed children are also trained to procure other children. One case which came to light in February 1992 involved an American lawyer called Patrick Gagel, who exported three thousand children from the United States to Peru for ‘adoption’ and they were never seen or heard of again.88

Okay maybe this is just me rambling but I feel a desperate need to respond. I have been following this thread for a while now and it is frightening how many things I am reading on here that stir something up in me. I was in a gifted program in my state in the midwest. I don't remember anything unusual about that so much but I do have some disconnected memories from child hood that make no sense. I sometimes wonder if I didn't just make them up in my own mind.

I think there are people in this world who are so extremely gifted, not just intelligent, but capable of changing the world. Have you ever felt like you could influence everything around you just using your thoughts? Have you ever experienced so many episodes of sychronicity that you think this isn't just random deja vu but something strange is going on?

I just randomly remembered my dad telling me a story one day about how he used to be in the Rosecrucians, when I was very small. He told me how they practiced perfecting the ability of moving things with their mind. I've never been able to do that, that I know of. But he has never brought it up again. He said he started to get freaked out about what they were doing and quit.

Maybe some of us have natural abilities we don't have to perfect and those are either interesting enough to study, or threatening enough to be watched very closely. Who knows. Like I said, I am probably just rambling.

also on youtube you can see a qi gong master or two moving objects on a table wit his mind (was on chinese news); also a guy who sets a newspaper on fire with his chi energy...

How is this any different really from what Gowan was talking about in Operations of Increasing Order, right down to a new paradigm even? This is definitely what they taught us (not the specifics per se for sure) so why the wholehearted trust in it? I'm still making sure to question everything, especially if it's something that the program said or did. Maybe I'm just a stick in the mud but I'd rather be a stick in the mud than someone who spends another 30 years never questioning the stuff they taught me. I'm not willing to just blindly accept or discard though.

That said, I was thinking of electromagnetic fields today. My family has an interesting trick of being "invisible" to certain types of sensor technology (ie automatic faucets, paper towel dispensers, finger print readers, and screwy interaction with touch screens). What if our fields are very different from the normal? Everything but the touch screen means that the eletromagnetic pulse is uninterrupted. Not sure why or how but that's the only explanation I can think of. It's a field anomaly.

OK, it's thread review time.

I'm going to -- slowly -- go back through this thread from page 1 and take notes. There's a lot of info here and it's not at all distilled into an easily digestible form.

I'll be noting:
* What exactly triggers memories?
* What sounds familiar?
* What sounds completely unrelated to my own experience?
* Specific statements from others saying they were in these programs in the same time/place as I (GATE in CA/1980s)

Summary to be posted eventually. It'll take a while. I'd be curious to see any other posters' summaries.

A dozen pages in and I'm distracted by the Ludens / confessions of an Illuminati thread. AC 863003 seemed to be triggering memories and reactions in a lot of people (including myself) and then faded off after getting hit as a ludenstard. Trying to remember if he/she returned but I don't think so, seem to recall the thread gelling on the idea that was an irrelevant aside. Odd to have so many connections from that person's posts though.

This'll take me at least a day or so, I'm sure.

AC 26993694 can correct me if I'm recollecting wrong, but the Luden person was the source of the initial shot of triggers (ie the peg puzzle, logic grid and etc). The Ludens person claimed to have been a planted child within the program that was to lead the actions of the other children. Looking at homo ludens, in hindsight, is actually kind of interesting. A few things that pop out on review of the wiki are the mythopoeia (myth-making), riddle making, and general writing forms, I suppose really. Mythopoeia (myth-making) was very much an element of the program. I'm not sure but in one of the things that I looked at (oh so helpful), there was a specific section in regards to myth making and the "Hero's Journey". That's pure Homo Ludens theory. Riddles and riddle making, too, were aspects of the curriculum. Gowan heavily emphasized religious figures in his Operations of Increasing Order and there is a corresponding section in Homo Ludens that discusses play in philosophy as, "“At the centre of the circle we are trying to describe with our idea of play there stands the figure of the Greek sophist. He may be regarded as an extension of the central figure in archaic cultural life who appeared before us successively as the prophet, medicine-man, seer, thaumaturge and poet and whose best designation is vates.” [link to en.wikipedia.org]

So yeah, kind of interesting in hindsight. I still don't think that what the Ludens guy says holds water in its entirety. There are aspects, at least from what I can recall, that still just don't wash.

In fact, Ludens was right to point us to Homo Ludens. Look what I just found:

Cancel looking back over the thread, I'm going to be perusing that wiki.

Of course the main question of "Who are you?" Potential leaders in the upcoming new world. You are both a threat and an asset as the "gift" has always been within each and every one of you. Continuing to go in circles, as some prefer (Hi Bea), keeps the status quo. Not much time left to sort this puzzle out (tick tock) and get yourself deprogrammed and prepped.

Personally survived three suicide attempts since August after being given "code green". Was obviously on to "them".

ACO, your memory of the Ludens poster is correct. 863003 posted the peg puzzle first, first mentioned the deductive logic grid puzzles, first mentioned scoliosis, first mentioned defenestration and books like L'Engel's A Wrinkle In Time and the Choose Your Own Adventure series. Mentioned Homo Ludens on pg 4.

A difference might be that Chi has a very long history in eastern culture. And has been used by monks etc for thousands of years. Chi, body temperature, breathing and a few others are lower brain functions, most are easy to do and replicate with practice.

I've recently gotten better at controlling my body temperature. Still no where near what the monks can do, if I can get close that would be awesome. However, it still takes me effort staying warm in the upper 50's wearing a t-shirt.

I believe in nothing. I have no master beyond myself nor any love or appreciation for those shrinks that tampered in my head or their teachings. My level of cynicism is high and everything appalls me. I don't know if that means I'm "there" or if I've just turned into a super bitch.

Either way, I prefer the super bitch because I do what I want. Easy way to fix programming--you see some of it, you smash it like a bug. Then you don't do it again. Now to finish painting a half painted tree. lol

Zero suicide impulses. Just grumpy but for good reason.

Re: Were You Part Of The "Mentally Gifted Minds" Program In California Scools back in the 70's?

Who knows. Like I said, I am probably just rambling.

yes, in answer to part of your question...

and you can move objects with your mind - via chi energy - and qi gong training...

like star wars and the jedi... you harness 'the force'...

dont believe in the force? read book called 'the field' by lynne mctaggart...

also on youtube you can see a qi gong master or two moving objects on a table wit his mind (was on chinese news); also a guy who sets a newspaper on fire with his chi energy...

:)

i am sure they probably dont want the general population to know this... qi gong i believe used to be practised in secret by the chinese emperor and some priests etc...

it's all very star wars...

Yes but last I checked, the US was not the Far East. Even Gowan plead ignorance in even the attempt at trying to teach that which has been practiced by shaman for centuries. He was a psychologist--not a shamn or anything remotely close-- and stated as such. We have this pathetic tendency as a culture to adopt other culture's spirituality and have those "teachers" of it tending to be those who had nothing at all to do with the originating culture. We do it with Eastern philosophies and religions. We do it with Native American beliefs and practices. I've actually been treated by a real and authentic medicine man (the guy drove a beat up truck and got paid in sheep because rich medicine men are evil plus he didn't speak a bit of English) and, thereby, have been witness to the details of their ceremonies from blessing ways to blackening ceremonies. However, my trying to emulate the medicine men would be the equivalent of my trying to perform neurosurgery after watching one on TV. So much detail, meaning and reasoning gets lost. Zero worldview adjustment. Based on my experience, the fact that my worldview was so close to a Nat Am one was the only thing that made it really acceptable to participate in any of these ceremonies so we, as a collective, might actually have a shot at grasping a different world view. However, the rest of what we were taught was pure psychological bastardization of indigenous and Eastern shamanistic rituals as filtered through a troop of psychologists and psychiatrists with a specific intent. Plastic medicine men--that's what we all learned from.

I remember the tests, and I remember the interview with both my parents.

My mom didn't let me do it in the South in 80-81. She felt that I didn't need to be bussed about and not in my regular classes. My dad was also red headed and I'm left handed, which I do remember being an "issue" with the school.

I hung out with all the GT kids, though, and was in a couple of the classes for it, but not the whole program (I didn't leave my school, mostly), but I did the field trips, testing and group sessions with the counselor. Still, lot of this stuff is a "wait...I did that" type of thing.
