Every single person other than one I can remember was in our program is a college professor. The other is a librarian. Sounds like your group was given a little more. ;). There was something in the Gatto book about a select group being chosen to keep this system going. Everyone is given the dots, but not taught to connect them. This select group is given the dots and told specifically how to connect them.

Possibly because my specific group doesn't match the college professor profile by a longshot. I was listing the types of jobs for all the gifted I know, which spans multiple states and decades. Restricting it down to just who was in TAG with me eliminates the tech jobs and pharmacist. In this group, it'd be manager at a major corp, exec at a major corp (financial analyst), city planner, accountant at another major corp, detective (forgot one lol), and teacher. I'd list the major corps but that'd be awfully narrowing. I will say that when I say major, I do mean MAJOR. I'm the failure in the group but I'm fine with that, lol. :) We all have different measures of success. I just tend to do things that don't earn me a kooshy job somewhere, lol. Still interesting.

However, I think that the professions really are going to vary wildly overall and change over time. I don't think it's as clear cut as some being shown the dots and others being shown how to connect the dots. I think professions are probably also going to be influenced by societal need. The youngest group I know are all in high tech except for one pharmacist. That could be skewed though because I met all of them through gaming.

I wouldn't consider you to be a failure for not being what they are. I'd measure it by happiness and what you're doing for the world.....which you may have way more of both of those than any of them. :)

All the people I'm thinking of are 35. College professors are about the last societal necessity I can think of. :P

Is there any particular career that the majority of the kids in the gifted program at your school ended up in. All but one of the kids I can think of at my school ended up in the same career and I wanted to see if this was a theme.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19011623

Not from my program - we run the gamut, and I wouldn't say there's anyone (that I'm aware of - there are several I can't easily track down) in a particularly conspiracy-worthy career. However, we've established that my program was not the same as the original being discussed in this thread.

One is a college professor, though (Literature).

My husband, who was in that program, was in the military and went on to a random assortment of jobs in various fields.

At least one I can think of is a teacher, another was a shrink at a VA.He was known for taking the "hopeless" cases nobody wanted and making them not hopeless.
I was told the church couldn't hold all the people who showed up at his funeral.

I am 39 years old right now and from when I was in third grade to sixth grade I was in this program and I remember very little but I asked my mom about it and she told me that I was definitely there I have o-negative blood type and I'm very conspiracy driven and when I was 7 to 9 years old I distinctly remember being abducted and
bean drug down a hallway by my left leg I was wearing pajamas weird I know but I will never forget that image and that incident

Yep. I love all of my friends who were in the program and not necessarily the same program as I. They are almost always the only people that see eye to eye with me on a variety of subjects and have an immense amount of depth to them. And definitely with the eclectic kind of life. We've all done interesting things in life. I've traveled a good deal, lived in and been accepted by a tribe, and met some really interesting people along the way (like my working for Hancock and Schoch for a while). My life has been very full...just also moderately smashed to bits, lol. Sometimes the stuff that I learned as a kid saved my hide while at the same time leaving me open for consistent abuse. It's definitely not all sunshine and roses thanks to the program or whatever variant I was put through.

I now recall a warehouse downtown and a mock abduction scenario. At least I think I do when I'm not telling myself that it's got to be a movie, lol. :( Hazard of amnesia--always wondering if something is a "false memory" or not. I also remember bouncing up and down on my bed, screeching joyfully that I can fly. Then being tackled by my family and given pills to sedate me. Kind of a funny memory but not. I know I'm never going to be normal like I always wished I was. I'm okay with that now though.

The Superconscious mind, seems to be the bulk of what was taught to me in the weird category, although not all. Granted most of it is very useful.

I can't confirm all of these. The body's temperature control, numbing touch and most of the others involving lower brain function do work, some call this Ki or Chi. Which is the manipulation of body's basic functions controlled by the lower brain, including the bodies electromagnetic field or aura.

Walking away seems like the only sane thing to do most days.
Whether it's truly walking away is up for debate, but I can see why the choice would be made.

And probably a whole lot more. Seems like names changed over time or varied perhaps from district to district. Frequent name changing is such a confidence booster. :P This list was just from this thread. Looking at the names of the programs are kind of interesting considering all that we have uncovered in the last few weeks. If I remember the way that the federal laws worked in regards to the establishment of gifted programs, I believe that all the states were mandated to identify them and only received some nominal additional funding if they developed a program for those students. Something along those lines.

It's also something that is definitely international. The list here, as far as the US goes, doesn't seem to be inclusive of a whole lot:

Incidentally, I have the same definition of "cute". At least "Talentpool" and "Search" really just stated what they were. Thought "Alpha" was cute, too. There's that tv show called Alphas about humans with exotic abilities. Gee, wonder if the writer read Gowan? lol CUTE.

Just scanning down the list, I'd have to agree due to the familiarity of the subjects. I'll never forgive the hippies for this. I'm always fearing sounding new agey or sounding like a hippy when I'm discussing anything that starts traipsing into "outside of the norm" thinking. Same with the 7 letter P-word. I found most of it helpful, but then maybe I was lucky I was only in for 3-4 years. The biggest issue I ran into, was the lack of any method to control my emotions. As I was highly empathetic, such is the curse of feeling others pain on top of my own.

The Basic concept is:
Emotions are triggered by thoughts, if we control our thoughts then we control our emotions. A thought is no more difficult then you make it to be. Once you grasp that concept and put it to use, controlling emotions is like child's play.

There are a lot of little tips and tricks you can use to control emotions, the more you practice the more proficient you become.
