Rep. Kelly Alexander (D – Mecklenburg) continues to lead the charge for more sensible marijuana policies in the Tar Heel State. Earlier this week, Rep. Alexander, along with six of his House colleagues, filed legislation that would downgrade possession of a small amount of marijuana from a Class 3 misdemeanor to a civil infraction! Ask your lawmakers to support this sensible proposal today.

Under current North Carolina law, individuals convicted of possession of under a half-ounce of marijuana typically receive a fine and a suspended sentence. This keeps most marijuana consumers out of jail, but it still saddles them with a damaging criminal record and wastes law enforcement and courts’ time. Rep. Alexander’s bill – H637 – would replace that penalty with a civil infraction for individuals who possess less than an ounce of marijuana. The bill also allows past offenders to have their records expunged. It’s time to bring some reform to Raleigh and it starts by emailing your lawmakers.

Rep. Alexander has clearly not been deterred by his obstructionist colleagues, so please don’t be either. Ask your lawmakers to join Rep. Alexander in bringing sensible reform to North Carolina, then urge your friends and family to do the same.

I still smoke weed even thought it's illegal, and I'm not stoned all the time. Nor do I smoke all the time because I have responsibilities. It's a luxury, like wine or moonshine.
I might be a pot smoking outlaw but I still care about what's going on in he world and getting things done :D I know most people feel the same way..

I live in Washington State and we've legalized marijuana. Most of us seem to be doing just fine, our world hasn't hastened it's collapse in any direct way. It still feels really weird sitting on the patio partaking where all the world could see.

with the tax revenues from legal marijuana sales
the government could pay-off the national debt and
balance the budget in 10 years!

You're a perfect example. There are more pros than cons to legalizing Marijuana, for instance, it would end the majority of the drug wars across our border. It would save tax payers money by not having to finance the idiotic convictions and incarcerations of this basically harmless plant. Alcohol causes more harm and death than any other substance.

After inhaling it through a bottle (Big Hit) for a solid 5 years I can say no, it shouldnt be. It fuked my head up. Ive quit 3 years and even though I think I am getting back to normal, I can feel my face go red when i speak in front of people i dont know at work now (I would not used to have cared), I find it harder to concentrate and I'm defiantly more paranoid. But no where near as bad as before I quit, hopefully I can reverse the damage.

Then there is guys I have known who have smoked it for longer, and it does not bother them. I think if your smart or have a good imaganiation its a bad idea, because you will think too much.

Cigarettes do not have the medicinal value that cannabis does and they have invented vaporizers that diffuse the usable properties without the burn and negative aspects.

It's already legal here in the state of Washington.

No biggie, either people are going to smoke it or they dont. Less overpopulation in the jails and prisons now.

I dont smoke it, even though I tried it in the past. Nothing special about it.

Other than very rare allergic reaction, nobody in the history of EVERS has EVER EVER died from smoking pot. Ever.

Yes it should be legal, whether for medical use or recreational use. We've been tokin for millennium+ with no ill effects. While the most widely abused drug worldwide "Alcohol" is not as safe and has resulted in the loss of too many lives to understand why it's still legal. I'll take something made by God any day over chemical made by men in some lab.

Should be an option that says, "Who cares. We have much more important things to be concerned about."
