Haiti earthquake: police open fire on looters
[link to www.telegraph.co.uk]

One rioter, a man in his 30s, was killed outright by bullets to the head as the crowd grabbed produce in the Marche Hyppolite.

Another looter quickly snatched the rucksack off the dead man's back as clashes continued and police reinforcements descended on the area armed with pump-action shotguns and assault rifles.

It came as predictions of the death toll from the Haitian earthquake rose to 200,000 as mounting desperation at lack of aid threatens to tilt the country into anarchy.

With up to three million survivors still cut off from outside rescue efforts, the United Nations said the disaster was the worst it had ever dealt with.

Disaster can bring out the worst in people. Didn't we see the same thing happen in New Orleans?

Re: Haiti earthquake: police open fire on looters
It's so easy for us to sit back and pass judgment in our comfortable seats in front of our computers. No doubt there is a lot of things wrong with what is going on. But so far as "police opening fire on looters", what do you expect?? I do believe this is a war zone at this time, and the military plans to "clean it up". Right or wrong, morally or whatever.

The main thing is there ARE so many able to help with aid, aid that needs to reach all that are alive, if even possible. We should question the delays, packages not being delivered. But also remember, these soldiers need to protect THEMSELVES from those that fear and hate their presence.

We DID see thugs firing on the rescuers. They thought the city was now theirs! Police were not firing on looters tho. It did put a damper on the rescues for awhile there.

Note for the record that this was a Haitian policeman shooting a Haitian because when the dust finally settles, it will be the U.S. soldiers blamed for every death as usual.
One of the most important aspects of conspiracy theories is being able to discern when there isn't one.

Oh yeah, like you'd understand anyway.

I can't get rid of the feeling that if this was all staged just to find out how they can manage crowd control if needs arise. Its a spooky feeling

I know that if a crisis happens here in Canada, we would be doing exactly the same thing.

If everything crashes around you, you try to survive, although I will never condone it by hurting/killing/maiming others, people will attempt to get supplies.

It would be hard to say what would happen anywhere. If you are exposed outdoors, unarmed, it is not likely many people could fight off a crowd to protect whatever it is they have on them at the moment. In a situation where you may be able to hunker down in a standing building, and are not afraid to do so because of aftershocks, then you may fair much better. But if you open the door to let someone in, or hand out food or water, it would probably be pretty much over.

Obviously your mileage may vary. Out it the areas where people may have access to an edible crop of some sort, or a fresh water source, then things would not be bad at all I don't think.

In a city, yeah, pretty much anywhere it would be horrible.

Per Saint Thomas Aquinas, if one is starving and cold, it is necessary to break into a home for food and shelter maybe permissible.

"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787

the looters are killing innocent people also. Police were just doing their job and will keep doing their job as long as the thugs think they can take anything they want.

Yep, either our soldiers did it, or it happened on their watch.
Yet, if we did nothing, we'd be even worse.
