HOLY CARP! Israel may really be on the verge of invading Lebanon. | |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 867704 United States 01/17/2010 09:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There's no moon for the next 2 nights... The increased probing is a normal precursor to an attack of some sort. If this is getting to be 'it', there will be a few more redeployments and preparations that should become evident very soon. IMO this is the perfect time to go in and clean house in Lebanon and get out while the world is focused on Haiti. That's twice in the past 10 days the Lebanese Army has fired on the IAF. It is pretty normal for the IAF (really ever since the early 80s) to overfly Lebanon conducting recon. I'll have to find it, but there was an UNIFL report a couple days ago that said the IAF overflights were increasing in quantity and duration. I also recall right before the Sept. 07 airstrike on the Syrian nuke facility reports of a similar IDF buildup in the North, presumably to signal to the Syrians that it would best be not to retaliate for the strike on its nuke plant. Makes me wonder if this IDF build up in the North doesn't have similar intentions . . . This may be phase 1 of an eventual Iran strike. 1. Move into southern Lebanon under the pretext of prohibiting the SA-2 transfer. Move the lines back far enough to prevent the Katusha's from being able to hit anything significant in Israel. This limits a Hezbollah response to a strike against Iran to medium and longer range surface-to-surface missles that can be more effectively engaged by the patriot and other defense systems. 2. The warning to Syria was not about the SA-2s, it was a clear warning that Syria would not be spared strikes should they stick their nose in and that Damascus itself would be hit should they become involved. 3. The IDF is prepping the masses for unconventional BioChem attack by handing out the masks. This may be for any of the smaller munitions that Hamas/Hezbollah may use or the more likely threat from Syria and Iran. 4. Israel knows that it cannot count on the US for help or authorization to overfly iraq. What they can do, however, is overfly Syria if they are currently engaged in hostilities. This is not as direct of a flight and would require refueling. I would be interested to know where Israel's dolphin subs are right now. What's worse, Israeli forces positioned in the north against Hezbollah might be to deal with Hezbollah consequent TO AN ISRAELI STRIKE ON IRAN. That Israel would be so bold as to tell Lebanon not to worry about a planned IDF exercise in the north when it is becoming clear some sort of operation is about to unfold is worrisome. This suggests something of much larger scale may be about to occur. The report about gas mask distribution in late-February was just to mask prepositioning gas masks for rapid distribution to the population once the war begins. The lack of news from Israeli sources suggests military censors are at work because Israel wires would cover what's being reported in Lebanon. Israeli censors wouldn't be at work unless and military operation was being planned. It is now dark there. NOT TO MENTION THAT THE LATEST TALK FOR SANCTIONS FAILED A COUPLE HOURS AGO. |

The exercise is aimed at improving the tactical capabilities of the army and testing its power to display operational mobility, Ahmadreza Pourdastan, the Army ground forces commander, said in a meeting with the servicemen from the Army Political and Ideological Organization. The commander went on to say that infantry, cavalry, telecommunication, and intelligence units of the army will be involved in the drills in cooperation with some units of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC). Through this military exercise the Iranian ground forces will send a message of peace and friendship to the countries in the region, he noted. All the military equipment and vehicles planned to be used in this exercise have been designed and manufactured by the Iranian Defense Industries Organization, he explained. He also announced that the mass production of some armored vehicles such as the Zolfaghar tank and a personnel carrier named “Sayyad” will go on stream in the near future [link to www.gather.com] Iran: World Powers Fail to Agree on Sanctions The Khaleej Times reported January 17 that the diplomatic negotiations concerning Iran's suspected nuclear weapons program failed to reach agreement on new sanctions against Tehran. Russian delegate Sergei Ryabkov is quoted as saying, "It is inconclusive in the sense that we didn’t make any decisions right away." Diplomats representing the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China were at the meeting. So what will President Obama do? His first deadline for Iran to comply with the demand to stop enriching uranium passed in September. The new, extended deadline passed at the end of December. When that deadline passed, President Obama said he would pursue new sanctions. That seems, now, after this latest meeting, to be going nowhere. So what's next? The story says, "The European Union, which hosted the meeting at its New York office, said that despite the lack of a concrete outcome, further sanctions were now on the big-power agenda and the six would be in contact again soon to continue the discussions." This is ridiculous. The "big-powers" have had this on their agenda for nearly a decade, and have been in contact during that time doing nothing but discussing what to do. It has become clear that deadlines mean nothing and sanctions aren't coming. Oh yeah, and how about this? China sent a mid-ranking guy while everyone else sent top-level diplomats. Sending a message? China has already said that it would not support new sanctions. And what about Russia? The story says "Western officials have said privately that Russia was 'on board' for more sanctions, provided they are not too tough." Not too tough? We already have sanctions that are "not too tough." That's Russia's way of saying that we've already gotten all we're going to get from them. Can anyone say Israeli military strike? Anyone? |

The $23-million contract to reconfigure the aircraft was awarded to Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in late 2008, as part of a strategic effort to rapidly enhance the country’s long-range strike capabilities. “Many of the air force’s current missions require extended range and that means more fuel,” Lt. Col. Amir, commander of the IAF’s 120 “International” squadron told Aviation Week Space Technology (for security reasons, Israel does not release last names of operational personnel). Refusing to discuss specific strike scenarios, he added: “I can gladly say that as an organization we have come to a point where we are ready to perform any mission in any range within a very short notice.” Iran’s nuclear facilities and the conflict such a strike would likely unleash have become the IAF’s primary mission in recent years. As such, IAF fighter squadrons are constantly training in aerial refueling scenarios. For the last two decades, Israel has been developing its strategic arm by procuring fighter aircraft with long-range strike capabilities, such as the F‑15I and F-16I. Last year, it also qualified its two squadrons of F-15A/B/C/D air-superiority aircraft to carry out ground-attack missions. However, notes Amir, “aerial refueling will allow any fighter, regardless of its range, to carry more munitions instead of fuel.” Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan stated that if Israel crossed over into Turkey’s airspace in order to bomb Iran then their answer to Israel shall be like that of an “earthquake“. Erdogan’s response was due to a question, in an interview with Lebanese newspaper “Al Safir”, over information indicating that Israel had violated Turkish airspace in the process of spying against Iran. Erdogan continued, saying that certainly “the information [stating that Israel was using their airspace to spy on Iran] is incorrect,” but he stated that, “if Israel did so, they will receive a response equal to that of an earthquake.” He also said it was not reasonable that Israel went to Gaza and “swept” the population and later had the audacity to believe that they would still be permitted to train with Turkish defense forces after they have wrought havoc on the Gaza Strip. “We,the elected government, came into being due to the will of our people. We cannot then challenge the feelings of the Turkish people, who were greatly effected by what happened during that aggression on Gaza. Our respect for the sentiment of the Turkish people played a decisive role in the background of our decision in refusing to conduct exercise “Anatolian Eagle”. Furthermore, the Israeli’s cannot use the relationship they have with us that is declared on paper in order to hit Iran and we will not stand neutral or with folded hands” “He said that most worry about in the Palestinian issue now is to develop the Gaza Strip”, which Turned into a big prison open, everyone stands idly by and indifferent to it. Which should not be Silence him, not only by the countries of the region, but also by the civilized world that respects Human rights “.” He described Israel’s war on Gaza as “aggression”, he is a crime against humanity in all its Standards, where Israeli forces used white phosphorus against civilians THE NEXT WEEK, I'M ON HIGH ALERT, and YOU SHOULD BE TOO. |

[link to www.upi.com] JERUSALEM, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Syria has allowed Lebanese Hezbollah militants to train with advanced anti-aircraft missiles in its territory, a U.S. source says. The Kuwaiti daily al-Rai quoted an unnamed U.S. official Sunday as saying Hezbollah operatives trained in Syria on SA2 anti-aircraft missile batteries, and that Israel has warned Damascus that if such weapons are given to the Shiite Arab militants, Jerusalem would view it as crossing an undeclared "red line," the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported. The "red lines" were defined by both sides after the Second Lebanon War, waged in 2006 between Israel and Hezbollah. Haaretz said al-Rai quoted the U.S. official as saying a war between Israel and Syria could break out if anti-missile batteries are supplied to Hezbollah, but added he didn't believe that a war would start anytime soon. |

Syria partially mobilizes reserves as tensions rise on Israel's northern border DEBKAfile Special Report January 22, 2010, 6:30 PM (GMT+02:00) Iranian and Syrian defense ministers shake on a military pact Friday, Jan. 22, Damascus ordered a Level 4 mobilization of Syria's army reserves for deployment to the Golan Heights on the Israeli border, to meet what it calls "IDF plans of attack." DEBKAfile's military sources interpret Level 4 as referring to Syrian armored and commando brigades. In Lebanon, too, Hizballah has placed "all its forces" on a state of military preparedness. Our intelligence sources report that this order applies to the Iranian proxy's strongholds across southern Lebanon and the Beqaa Valley, but not to its command posts in Beirut and other Lebanese cities. Damascus and Hizballah both claim that Israel has embarked on a large-scale military exercise along its northern borders to create a jumping-off point for striking Hizballah followed by raids into Syria. However, Western and Arab sources confirm that Israel made a point of reassuring Damascus and Beirut via American and UN intermediaries at the beginning of this week that the military units massed in the north were engaged solely in maneuvers with no aggressive intent. Far from being prompted by IDF war games, Syria and Hizballah are reported by our Iranian and military sources as acting out the secret military cooperation pacts they have just concluded with Tehran. The pacts were negotiated and signed during visits to Damascus by Iran's National Security Adviser Saeed Jalili on Nov. 3 and its defense minister Ahmed Vahidi on Dec. 17. These treaties commit Syria to come to Hizballah's aid if it comes under Israeli attack, and all three signatories to respond to any Israeli military movement. Our military sources believe Hizballah and Syria are taking advantage of the Israeli war game to test their own preparedness for attack on orders from Tehran.
