I think there is a way to contact either 'Frank or Mike' there. Let them know you would be pleased to let either of them have a go at your backside. I'm quite certain they'll get right back to you. [/quote from Backfromthedead] Thank you Backfromthedead. You just proved my point of how stupid, ignorant, and childish most of you are on here. I put forth a solid argument backed with facts and points and all you can come up with is this childish, immature, highschool response. You are so original, congratulations on your epic, epic failure. I love when people make complete asses out of themselves and can't come up with an interesting, original, educated response or argument. YOU LOSE!! Last Edited by wiegjasi on 08/18/2010 03:50 AM |
KansasIggy User ID: 1072400 United States 08/18/2010 04:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Actually, I do some 'picking' as a sideline and these guys usually pay much more than I would. Spending $50 to sell for $75 doesn't pay for the gas, food, lodging and storefront they maintain. I almost wonder if History Channel has tweaked the margins to avoid the outrage that some of the people posting here (who don't seem to get the concept of making a profit) have. Pawn Stars is much more realistic marginwise. If you want to sell your stuff for retail, open a store... then good luck, you'll need it. Last Edited by KansasIggy on 08/18/2010 04:18 PM |
rick in dc User ID: 1072697 United States 08/18/2010 09:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It is so annoying and frustrating reading some of these post. I get so mad, I just can't believe how dumb and closed minded some of you are. I'm sure most of you posting the negative comments are a bunch of Socialists Obama butt sniffing idiots. God forbid if someone tries to make a dollar while trying to save history at the same time. These guys aren't the reason this country is going to hell, it's you idiots who believe in sharing the wealth and think capitalism is such a horrible thing. First of all they are not taking advantage of anyone, I mean give these people some credit. Don't you think they understand that these guys are doing this to make money? So given that when the guys buy something the people know they are selling it to them for less then it is worth. Second, did it ever occur to any of you that they do lose money soemtimes? I've seen where they have bought stuff and paid more then what it is worth. Third, 95% of the stuff they buy they are only making about a $40-$200 profit. Oh wow, they are just flat out robbing people with those profit margins. I mean I've seen them pay like $1,200 for something and maybe sell it for $1,600, so where is the taking advantage of going on? Lastly, the one episode they were actually giving the lady more then what she was quoting on stuff. So, all of you complaining and bitching, epic, epic fail! your points and facts are baseless and you obviously have no knowledge of the antique business or any profit making business for that matter. Most of you are probably jealous because you're so uneducated and wished you had the knowledge Frank and Mike have. Quoting: wiegjasiso, let me get this straight, it's the sharing the wealth and believing captialism is horrible that is making this country go to hell? it has nothing to do with the excessive greed of big business, the enrons, the deregulation, the shipping jobs overseas? nothing at all? me thinks you really really need to stop regurgitating what your handlers tell you to say and try some critical reasoning. it's big business and deregulation that is running this country into the ground. and trust me, pumpkin, that wasn't done by the democrats. and name calling is the last resort of someone who can't present an argument with a valid point. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1072977 United States 08/19/2010 04:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If the sellers are happy with the offer, then why does it bother you? I don't like the show either, but evidently others do. It's no different than finding something valuable at a garage sale for a rock bottom price. Would you inform the seller that their 2.00 work of art is really a lost and priceless masterpiece worth 200000.00. |
historymystery User ID: 1072971 United States 08/19/2010 05:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Today the show starts with Danielle calling to tell them they are buying too much and selling too little. She is worried about the business falling apart. They discuss the call amongst themselves in their homo-ride and decide they have to buy the perfect hot seller on this trip. WTF are we too believe that the Shell commercials that sponsor this show aren't supplying all their gas? And that History Channel isn't paying them money? While they are on t.v. they basically don't have to sell a damn thing. I guess they wanted us to think it necessary that they burned Hobo whatshisname for all they could so that there celebrated business could survive. By the way those guys are as queer as can be. |

juice95 User ID: 1073227 United States 08/19/2010 11:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | All the people that hate this show are probably jealous that they sold something at a garage sale for $5 and now are thinking maybe I could have gotten more. I love the show as it teaches me about the history of American goods, which amazes me everytime. THAT is the purpose of the show. Some of you idiots make it sound like they are sneaking on these properties, stealing the items and reselling them. The people AGREE to the price. Get a grip and learn something about our American history. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1073227 United States 08/19/2010 11:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Now Pawn Stars on the other hand is a bit ridiculous. People bring something in, find out it's worth say $5000, and Rick says "I'll give you $500 cash. WTF! And these people agree so many times to these rock bottom, insulting offers that I shake my head every time. The profit margin on American Pickers at least isn't as insulting as that. |

TO think for one minute this would somehow be cleared to air is appalling. To brag or somehow boast about an unsolicited visit to Leland's farm and the price paid versus the actual value should be illegal. If this would have been my granddad I would have felt robbed of my family heirloom and treasures. The History Channel should immediately cancel this show!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were so looking forward to a new show that was really about hidden treasures in American not thievery we couldn't even finish the show. Quoting: HISTORY CHANNEL****FOR SHAME** 868648These guys are scum bags !!!!! Nice job History Channel way to promote thieves . I would love to meet these guys face to face , and work a deal out with them. If you know what I mean ! History Channel you should make things right pay these people fair price for their stuff, and fire these dirt bags your a fucking retard the american pickers dont steal they buy what those old people would just let sit in sheds they BUY it dont steal and they dont have to sell it the old people choose to sell it. Goyim User ID: 1069194 United States 08/23/2010 04:04 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Typical jewish behavior. If you have something they want, or they can take advantage of you, they knock themselves over to show you what a great friend they are. Watch when they are dragged inside to meet "granny" and act fascinated to meet the semi-conscious octogenarian. They are so phony and smarmy. Parasites. Quoting: jew bitch 1037730WE ARE ALL NOT LIKE THAT!!! U DUMB FUCKIN idiot, The show is about history, try listening for a chance instead of being hateful!!!! Is that so? Why don't you share with us what your holy book the Talmud says about it being ok to rip off "goyims" (translation: non jews/"cattle") Jews have ruined this country with their communism, spying for the communists, and constant race baiting. After all if you get the blacks/hispanics/whites at each others throats, who is going to notice our string pulling. Where ever jews go then end up being hated. Why is that? Cause their such perfect citizens and people are just racist morons? Please. Jews are 3% of the US population and control nearly all the media. Why exactly is that? No worries though, I'm sure jews would never use that situation to trick the cattle/goyims right? Sell your lies somewhere else. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1077603 United States 08/23/2010 09:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's called business, everyone sells and buys to make a profit. Furthermore the people who decide to sell there items for the price offered do so of there own will, they have the option to decline the price offered. You are ignorant for starting this thread. Obviously you have no business sense or any other. |
Nyarlathotep User ID: 1077822 United States 08/24/2010 02:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Are you guys retarded? They work for a fucking antique store. Where the fuck else do you get antiques but from elderly people just sitting on their stuff that their kids don't want? It's not like they're going into their homes and badgering them for their fine china and fancy silverware, they're making them offers for the CRAP they have in basements, barns, and other miscellaneous places around their property where it's left to rust and rot. It's mostly junk with value only to very specifically-minded collectors. To an ordinary person, this stuff is usually crap. They never force anyone to sell anything, they make offers. it's called negotiations. Seriously, are you guys this fucking stupid? The people they buy from are usually looking to sell the junk they have laying around, and that is how the two guys from the show even find out about the seller in the first place. There's a reason most of the sellers are elderly, it's because they have been collecting things for years, and by the time they are ready to sell or have amassed a large enough collection to interest pickers, they've gotten pretty old. Most of them have been on their land for YEARS, even DECADES. They pile up the stuff they collect for all this time, and the collection is not usually considered worthy of much note until it's rather large. That takes a VERY LONG TIME. Have you guys even SEEN the show? Your intentions are noble, but hideously misplaced. If you want something to complain about, go complain about Whale Wars on Discovery Channel. It's a show about eco-terrorists attacking people just trying to do their jobs. It's not a necessary job, no, but it's not their fault they need to make a living. Whales should be saved, but they should be saved through legislation and political action, rather than terrorism and aggression. The Japanese government is making great strides in anti-whaling legislation whilst simultaneously denouncing Sea Shepard as terrorists. THAT is something to complain about. You guys are idiots. |
level-minded User ID: 1035109 Canada 08/24/2010 10:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Most people don't realize the expensive TIME and WORK OF HAULING AN OBJECT TO AUCTION; there are transport costs, & AUCTION HOUSES CHARGE FEES! Some items even need to be officially appraised before they can be legally retailed--another fee. So to buy something for $500 when it is estimated to sell at auction for $1,500 is (A) only going to earn the seller: "the sell price" minus "10% auction house cut" minus "6% auction house handeling fees" minus "appraisal cost (if necessary)" AND MINUS the "travel and time costs of transferring the item";and (B) buying an item in hopes of selling it at auction is always risky, because final sale price at auction depends entirely on who attends that specific auction that very day. Need I inform everyone that Anyone who wants to profit by auctioning a belonging can simply call the auction house, haul the item over, and pay the appraising fee THEMSELVES. Oh, and here's another thought: Some years's back a guy named Craig started up an exchange program for those who want to reap every penny they can from an old belonging. This exchange platform is paid for by advertising. eBay charges a service fee. Every service has a fee..For those of you who don't grasp that concept, try growing up and earning money in exchange for a service you provide. And be sure you learn the concept of Overhead costs: Operating Costs=the costs incurred to provide the convenience Enjoyed, for example, of having an item you Do Not treasure taken out of your way and even exchanged for unsolicited & tax-free income! Any item that is actually "treasured" is (A) not for sale, period, or (B) not buried in a JUNK PILE so large that it is necessary to climb into the pile just to find the "treasured" 'time-piece' that awaits "swindling" from the hands of the innocent old man that paid between $0 and $20 (in today's dollars) for it and clearly loves it so much that he let's it rot inside a barn, rather than outside under a tarp... Oh wait, a lot of items on the show ARE outside, not even under a tarp! The Pickers go out of their way to NOT take advantage of people who do plan on holding an auction or sale-aka people who actually want to do the work involved to get rid of items, whether for the space or for a profit. The Pickers do respect when items are not for sale; what may confuse critics of the show is when the owner of an item is someone who forgot he owned the item until M&F found it amidst a rust pile. I do think that Mike & Frank judge the true hoarders a bit too much. Anyone who is aware of their belongings and values them-even if they are kept in a shack- shouldn't need to say five times that something's not for sale. Other than those instances, though, Frank and Mike are doing a service and convenience to the people they find. And I enjoy watching them do it! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1079076 United States 08/25/2010 09:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The American Pickers have turned a hobby into a business and buy items with CASH that would most likely never come back into the market. They dig through trash and old buildings recovering things that would only rot away in time. Good for them for providing some extra spending money to the elderly as well as helping out many other people that would just throw away many of the items they purchase. |
