| ehall User ID: 1091589 09/06/2010 10:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have had to clean out my parents house and then my brother passed away and we got all his stuff too. now I have to get rid of it if I could get these guy to come to our place I would rool out the red carpet for them. Now I'm stuck selling all the stuff on ebay pennies on the dollar. At least thoes guys give them 1/2 of what it is worth. |
| justme1 User ID: 1091675 09/07/2010 12:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | First of all, nobody else is gonna buy the stuff, if the seller wants more money for something then the seller must do the leg work, do research and find out what it can sell for, or take it to auction. all these guys are doing is buying stuff that the sellers arent using! to be honest most of the people they pick from are hoarders!!! when my moms friend passed away it was a nightmare having to go thru everything, and you do have to go thru everything cuz you dont want to just toss away something of value, so now my friend has a basement full of stuff that not only was her mom not doing anything with but now she isnt doing anything with. At least these picker guys are selling these items to someone that would actually make use of the stuff. |

LOL i bet if they showed up at your place you would gladly sell them anything they wanted....why? because you are a 2-faced MORON....... case closed. |
| Diggit User ID: 1091790 09/07/2010 03:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | All you panty waist liberals need to just chill out. They didn't coerce anyone to sell something. When you go buy a car do you just walk up and pay the asking price or do you haggle a bit? If you went to a garage sale and found a box of coins they were selling for $25 knowing that there was a 1909svdb lincoln penny inside worth $30,000 would you buy it or go take out another mortgage on your house to give 'em what it's worth? They never tresspassed, they never coerced anyone just to make a profit, they haggled with the people to get a "fair" price. With their antique knowledge did they know they were getting an outstanding deal, even more than the seller could ever imagine it was worth? OF COURSE! That's called C-A-P-I-T-A-L-I-S-M!! I know that is a dirty word to the bleeding heart liberal pukes out there but...deal with it. That's how America was founded, right?? Do you know anything about the Louisiana Purcase?? Buying Alaska from the Russians, Texas from the Mexicans, Florida from the Spanish??? You think those prices were "fair"? You should all occupy Oregon and share all your wealth equally amongst yourselves and see how long that lasts. You'd be cheating and backstabbing each other within a month. What these guys dont show you is how many doors they've knocked on where they were turned away or ignored. They don't show the people who know what they have and what its worth and who laugh these guys off their property. You obviously have no concept of the entertainment industry. It's called E-D-I-T-I-N-G!! They pick and choose the best of the best to display on the show. After all, television is all about ratings. People want to see great deals, finding diamonds in the rough and such. In closing...you'll also notice that these guys, in EVERY CASE, ask the sellers how much they want for the items FIRST...then they haggle. If you had something at your house that was worth a mint and you were only asking $20 for it I'd whip out a 20 faster'n you could spit. And I'd do it with a clear conscience. Eat dirt ![]() |
| Randy User ID: 1093220 09/08/2010 12:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think many of you have some validitity to your points. You also must understand that most of this stuff really is junk.Only in the right market are you ever going to be able to sell this stuff. These guys are not crooks. They are just junk collectors like most of the people they buy from. Most of these people are making a good deal of profit off of these items they are wanting to sell. These people contact them in most cases. How many people really want this stuff seriously. To me these people are Happy to see someone come and take this stuff away and put some money in there pockets. |
| ks7010 User ID: 1093545 09/08/2010 06:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think a lot of people are taking this way too far. If you'd read about Mike Wolfe, he goes back when he can and gives these people more money when he gets waaaay more than he paid them. Also the price they estimate they can sell things for rarely ever happens and they tend to not make much of a profit. The people selling know exactly how much thses things are worth and know the pickers need to make a profit. Next time do some research and take a chill pill. |
| old timer1969 User ID: 1093889 09/09/2010 02:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If nothing else. These guys have helped the "old" people who collect junk. Now, because of the show, people will take notice of the "junk" they have. Instead of assuming that it is a bunch of worthless trash, they might research, to find out what it is worth. Then again, even if it is worth more money, maybe they just want to get rid of it. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 716759 09/09/2010 04:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have to disagree with this opinion. Most of those older people will never sale that stuff, they will leave it to their kids who will be too busy to deal with it and probably end up giving it away. Oh by the way, have you been on Ebay lately? Value has went way down. So what if they pick it up for cheaper, the most important point of the whole show is to restore these items for others to enjoy. So no, I don't think they just rip them off, they tell them upfront that they cannot pay retail. So you are wrong. Go Frank and Mike! Dena Aurora, CO |
| LANE User ID: 1097617 09/13/2010 12:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think all the fake laughter is an attempt to disguise their flaming homosexuality. For instance, when the chubby one decides to scam a guy for his lamp. He claims it is going to be for his girlfriend (fake laughter). Strangely, when the seller names his price, big boy motions to his partner to pay. I guess he wasn't completely lying. Quoting: Seymour Duncan 880222 |

| Okay Now User ID: 1097952 09/13/2010 07:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I wouldn't necessarily say that they are stealing. They don't take anything without paying for it. It's there career to find old things and turn them into something a collector would like to purchase. No one has to take the money that is offered. They can always haggle or say no. The bottom line is, a lot of these people don't want to take the time that the pickers do to find collectors. To them the things they have are just sitting around taking up space. They only want to make a few dollars off of something that is probably junk to them. Finally, the pickers have a real interest in historical items. They find value in things that most of us would never even consider was worth anything. The show is more about the history or value of old things than it is about the people who are selling or buying them. |
| GPP User ID: 1098065 09/13/2010 10:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hahaha! You must be kidding me! This many people are worked up about a couple guys buying antiques? It's a free market society we live in...ever heard of economics? Supply and demand? These guys are BUSINESSMEN, if you don't understand that this is their hobby AND their job, then you probably shouldn't watch it. No one is forced to sell their crap to these guys. Even that old man had a daughter there to make sure they weren't ripping his off. I'm amazed that people think this is the decay of society. That's hilarious. American history IS the free market. This is exactly who we are, and always have been. Communism is what you prefer? |

Please forward this to all you know, let's get this action against these folks stopped. Washington Post IRS going after Junk collectors from History Network Washington(API)- Obama administration officials with the IRS have confirmed the Internal Revenue Service has a lawsuit pending, for failure to pay taxes and provide IRS Form 1099 for payment to persons who they purchased items from on their television show "American Pickers". Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz from the "American Pickers" television series could not comment, while litigations are underway. When contacted from the Washington Post, General Electric, who owns the History Television Network provided the following statement. " General Electric and its subsidiaries are currently in discussions to resolve this issue to the benefit of all concerned parties" Also named in the lawsuit were Mike Wolfe's business www.antiquearcheology.com, Frank Fritz's www.frankfritzfinds.com, and their female costar Danielle Cushman. Ms. Cushman has been charged with accessory to tax evasion, falsifying receipts and money laundering. The people who sold items are also under investigation for failure to report income over $500,00. American Pickers is seen on the History Channel Mondays 9P.M. EDT. Hobo Jack-- IRS after him for $2150.82 (sold antique Motorcycle parts) Tony owes IRS $489.34 (sold antique bike parts) Dan owes IRS $129.54 (sold the waving Phillip Morris) Jack owes $237.72 (sold antique Ice-cream station and metal signs) So these old 'hoarders' were minding their own business, livin' the dream in their great grandad's house in the hollar when up drive the Gay Blades.... Mike and Frank. Mike and Frank, because it makes them extra $$$, record themselves paying CASH to the ignorant hillbillies. Mike then telephones his cousin, Hymie Wolfe, who works for the IRS in DC. He says: "Hey Hymie, we just screwed Hobo Jack - paid him $2100 for $50K worth of antique motorcycle parts! And guess what? The dumb hick said he hasn't filed a tax return in a decade! Sick the dogs on him, Hymie. He still has a small fortune in parts and old cars. After you guys fine him $10K, ol' Frank and I will go back and lowball him for what he wouldn't sell us, and that way he can pay off his IRS fines!" Lawyers.... IRS.... TV cameras.... Fines.... Courtrooms.... Judges.... all a parting gift left behind by Wolfe and Fritz. Too bad these clowns don't show up at one of the Rockefeller's country cabins. Just think of the havoc they could cause. | Anonymous Coward User ID: 1099734 09/15/2010 04:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wow, I dodn't even know where to start. I can see that the majority of people posting here have way too much time on their hands, have never seen the show, have never been to a garage or estate sale, can't grasp the concept of buying and selling, aren't that sharp and are so miserable that they have to piss and moan about everything. Quoting: Jasperjack 1087660If anyone has watched this, in my opinion, spectacular program, they would see that the guys are doing what many of us do every summer...check out other peoples junk. The big difference is that they are finding things to turn around to collectors and auctions. Many times the profit they make on pieces are really not that great. Also, a great number of things they pick are pretty much worthless to 90% of the people on the planet. For example; an old rusted out bike frame is worth nothing, unless someone happens to collect them...in that case it has value to them and no one else and they are willig to pay for it. Many of the people they buy from are tickled pink to meet others that appreciate what they collect and are more than happy to sell or if not, they're just happy to tell the story. Also, they find a things that haven't been seen in decades. Pieces that would be forever lost to time are brought back to life for people to enjoy and cherish. So, I guess the bottom line is... You folks need to get your collective heads out of your collective asses and get a life. No the bottom line is you sure had a lot to say for someone that has something better to do! |

The guys don't have to twist anybody's arm, because people line up by the hundreds just to be on. If they didn't want to sell, or to be on the show at all, they wouldn't. Also, I hear that sometimes the crew slides the people more money off camera, (to be more fair) so in the end it all works out anyway. |
