Are you people freaking high? Do you not understand what it means to be a reseller and the idea of a free and open market? Also, do you not understand what it means to develop connections and personal business relationships that allow you to sell things at the prices Mike and his associates are able to sell them for.

You people act as if they hadn't shown up all these folks would be living on easy street had they not been "ripped off". Let's be freaking honest here, on average most people are just surprised that people would WANT to buy their junk, secondly the profit margin is on average, only about 60 to 80%, so it's not like they're offering $5 and getting $5,000. More to the point do you have such a bad memory that you can't remember this season's episode where they repeatedly told a woman the numbers she was giving them were too LOW? They offer a fair price for what is essentially junk. They take the time and money to clean them, repair them and THEN sell them.

Also, a HUGE part of their business is CONNECTIONS. Do these people have those connections? NO! They don't. They spend their money to maintain a business with several employees to utilize their connections to make a living on a niche sector of the economy.

If you believe that what they're doing is dishonest or even remotely criminal I think you should get your head examined ASAP.

Watch Pawn Stars close and you will see they have it down to a science. "What do you want for your old Edison phonograph?" "I need $600, look at all the old wax cyliders that come with it." "No way I can do that, man, I can give you $50. People just want to display this, and will never play it. To be honest with you I'll be lucky to sell it within the year, and it will just be sitting here on the shelf." "But the expert said it was worth 1 million dollars." This is how it's done, and I don't blame Pawn Stars or Pickers for it, but these people pawning things are retards that don't know what they are doing. I do feel for some of the older folks that the Pickers take advantage of, but I think they get a check from the TV producers when the release form is signed.

I honestly can't believe how idiotic most of you are being. I mean really. These guys had a business BEFORE they made this show. They do the same things that Antique Malls, Flea Markets, and oh wait..BUSINESSES do. They look for stuff to make a profit on. If you open your eyes and notice, when they go to someone's property and they tell them to leave, THEY LEAVE. If you do not want them on your property, just say so. I mean who wouldn't want someone to just show up and ask them if they had some junk to sell, how convenient is that. I mean if your these people were looking to make a "real" profit off of anything they have they could get someone to seriously pursue it for them. I mean even selling at Antique Malls they charge people to sell there, these guys just show up to look at people's junk and pay them for it! And if they don't want to sell, all they have to do is say so.

All that these guys are doing is running a business and doing something that they love. No harm in that. AND..people make some money and get their junk cleared for them. How is that a crime? It isn't...

This is a great show, and I hate that people are turning a harmless tv show into so much drama. If you don't like it, don't watch it. End of story.

To collect more dust or go to waste in a junkyard once they pass away? It's not like they're buying some poor grandmother's necklace that she could've or was going to pass down to her child or using underhanded means at all, they're fucking BARGAINING to clients who are willing to sell what they have. They're buying fucking oil cans, old bikes, posters, etc. etc. Miscellaneous items that, to most people, are junk. How is that stealing, to buy something that someone does not use and does not want, hence why they're open to selling the items? Climb off of your moral high horses and stop being stupid. I don't see how someone could be so blind that they honestly consider American Pickers, of all things, on the fucking History channel, an immoral show. If I knew an old person who was in posession of an item of great value but that person wasn't aware of the value of the item, I would let them know it's real value and if they desired, I would introduce them to a buyer.

I know what it is like when an old timer dies and the family gets rid of things. I have actually seen (and bought) rolls of silver coins turned in to banks for face value by their kids. The bank can only pay the face value and then I reimburse the bank.

This is an awesome show. It is really interesting. I love the bargain hunting and the thrill of the deal.

Here is a slightly different example. I had a friend,who is deceased, who made himself an expert in American oil painters. At a garage sale, he found a dusty old oil, about 24 x 18. A landscape. He paid $50 for it. He had also made himself an expert at cleaning and restoring oil paintings, so he cleaned it up and took it to an authority at a local museum. The painting was verified to be an original by a significant American painter of the early 20th century and was estimated to be worth between $250-400k. Should my friend have gone back to the garage salers and offered them more money for the painting?

ok guys... I read a good two pages of all the bullshit on here and it's ridiculous... I don't like the show much, but I must say... It's business! It's a free market, both parties have something the other wants... rusted old stuff, and cash money. Do you really think an 88 year old guy is going to go around through all his shit and say... "hmm, I wonder how ebay works?" NO! He's most likely going to leave it until the day he crawls into bed and die! Yeah it would suck if he were to later find out how much the item costs if it is a lot more than what he sold it for, BUT that is how shit works. Next time get an appraisal from the right people... And people nowadays will virtually find anything to complain about! Good God... Suck it up, and get a grip!

As for Pawn Stars, greatest show on history! It's a business, and you learn a lot about history, great stuff.
