Each time a person stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. And crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. Few are willing to embrace the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change. Quoting: HitndahedfredProbably because it's been discussed in so many places already. History Channel seems to include it in all of their "Ancient Aliens" shows. It's interesting, but then so is most of the unknowns about ancient cultures. The debate always ends up the same. One part thinks it's alien tech, the other part says "you're crazy" - so why bother with that abuse? and now you know. |

Or a previous human civilization with different technologies than we have? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 868356I believe the latter. A previous human civilization with different tech. I would just love to believe the "alien" theories but all there is on that is just circumstantial evidence at best. Here is the remains of huge structures with more complicated manufacturing than the pyramids, and it is thousands of years older. Kinda like the "peak oil" one. Where a civilization rises to a point where it depletes the resources it needs to keep growing and alive. MartyWrites User ID: 868058 United States 01/19/2010 02:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Many of us here are willing to believe in an assortment of doom types, so why should it be hard to believe that civilizations have come and gone, flourished before us and died off due to catastrophic events? Genesis 6:4 tells us: 6:4 "There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown." Assuming that this is all true, then we probably had a race of giants who were probably also very intelligent and likely capable of much more than we currently imagine. They were, according to the Scriptures, children of God, and God had simply called things into existence. Or, perhaps, God gave the orders. Anyhow, we have structures on earth that we can't explain any other way without attributing them to alien technology. Also according to the Bible, the earth was subjected to fire and brimstone (Sodom and Gomorra) and Noah's flood. It is also documented that the sun stood still at one point for 3 days. That probably created great havoc, as well. These are things from one ancient text and there are others such as referenced by Immanuel Velikovsky. I have no problem believing that the earth has been subjected to catastrophes in the past. Between historical documents and scientific excavation, and megalithic structures such as are in the video, how can anybody say such things are impossible? Just because we have not seen them happen in our lifetime does not mean that they can't happen. The earthquake in Haiti just did considerable damage. The tsunami of a few years back did lots, and these are relatively small when one considers what might happen if we were to be hit by an asteroid or comet, or subjected to the near passing of some other heavenly body. Events of that magnitude would have probably destroyed previous civilizations and only structures such as the pyramids and the other megalithic buildings would have survived. With sufficient force, winds, rain and time, almost anything can weather away into oblivion, and the few survivors of such an event would be preoccupied with, dare I say it, survival for quite a while. In short, it has happened before, probably many times and will likely happen again. In the far distant future, people will find whatever survives of our civilization and try to piece together who we were and what we did as we do now. |

DiMiTri User ID: 868484 United States 01/19/2010 04:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It is theorized the Pumapunku complex as well as its surrounding temples, the Akapana pyramid, Kalasasaya, Putuni and Kerikala functioned as spiritual and ritual centers for the Tiwanaku. This area might have been viewed as the center of the Andean world, attracting pilgrims from miles away to marvel in its beauty. These structures transformed the local landscape; Pumapunku was purposely integrated with Illimani mountain, a sacred peak that the Tiwanaku possibly believed to be home to the spirits of their dead. This area was believed to have existed between heaven and Earth. The spiritual significance and the sense of wonder would have been amplified into a "mind-altering and life-changing experience"[12] through the use of hallucinogenic plants. Recent excavations have unearthed hallucinogenic cacti, other psychedelic entheogens, drug paraphernalia, snuffing kits, and mummified shamans with assortments of drugs and medicines. Examinations of hair samples exhibit remnants of psychoactive substances in many mummies found in the Tiwanaku aria, even those of babies as young as 1 year of age, demonstrating the importance of these substances to the local people's spirituality.[13] [link to en.wikipedia.org] |
