A 30-year-old Saratoga Springs man has died after inhaling a toxic chemical.

Janet Frank, spokeswoman for Intermountain Healthcare, said the man inhaled selenomethionine, possibly at his job in Payson this afternoon. She said she believes he felt ill while at work and returned home to Saratoga Springs and then went to the Saratoga Springs IHC Instacare. He was later transferred to American Fork Hospital, where he died.

Frank said she does not know many details at this time about the chemical, but said it appears to be fast acting.

“It just all happened in the last two hours,” she said.

Frank said the IHC Instacare is currently locked down with 24 people inside while multiple fire crews try to determine the risk to individuals on the scene. It is unclear at the moment how many people were affected by the chemical and whether everyone who came in contact with the victim will need to be decontaminated.

"They have not determined yet how many people will have to be decontaminated," Frank said.

There is a hazardous materials crew at the man's house because he went home before he was taken for medical help. The victim's name has not been released. His family was with him at American Fork Hospital, but Frank said she does not know their medical condition.

selenomethionine [link to en.wikipedia.org] is not that toxic after all and i doubt that inhaling just small amounts of it would lead to such a sudden death. i think the propaganda machine is running already. could be a major cover-up underway!

I looked it up too and it did not match the circumstances. Its probably an UNKNOWN mixture since he worked in a lab.

I am getting inside word that the hospital ER where he dies is now being sealed off and closed also and that his body is still inside waiting for a full level 5 hazmat crew to arrive there
