I too am concerned about New Madrid and my concern expands beyond the 200 year Native American belief.

I am in the process of compiling data that shows a correlation between solar minimum and increased earthquake activity on the North and South American and Caribbean plates.

We are just now coming out of solar minimum just like we were in 1811.

The intensity of solar cyle 19 was unlike any we have experienced since then. What is noteworthy is that the duration of this solar cycle was a short one. I am attempting to quantify a relation between intensity and duration. The last solar cycle, Cycle 23 was very long in duration but average in intensity. What I am looking at is does a average intensity cycle with long duration have the same effect as a short duration cycle with above average intensity.

Things are normal, nothing to see here, move along.

There were 35 earthquakes in Greece since midnight (UTC) of jan, 22 (4 of them, including the 2 latest, larger than 4.5)
A very BIG EQ is on the verge of hitting Greece.

Sunspot Cycle 23 was 12.6 years long
The last one from May 1996 to December 2008.

Sunspot Cycle 5 was also 12.6 years long.
New Madrid quakes occurred precisely 1 year later.

So we are in the window for New Madrid to let go if there is indeed a correlation between these two cycles.

The first sign will be small mud volcanos cropping up around the fault line.

Smaller earthquakes that escalate and animal migrations are something to look for....

Not sure when this will happen, but it will happen.

In regards to volcanos it appears that major eruptions occurr during the peak of a solar cycle.

DIET that is some compelling data you posted. Do you have a theory as to why earthquake activity increases during solar minimum?

My uneducated guess would be that the Earths magnetic field is in a weakened state thus allowing crustal displacement to accurr with less resistance. Your thoughts?
