Potential Volcanic Erruption in Costa Rica
We were just on a conference call with some of our Costa Rican business partners and they have been having earthquake tremors all day. There are fears that the volcano there may be ready to erupt and emergency crews are already showing up...

The latitude of Haiti and Costa Rica are very close...Haiti is 10 degrees and Costa Rica is 19 degrees.

I don't have a verifiable source right now but I'll investigate.

***UPDATE***
Magnitude M 4.4
Region COSTA RICA

Date time 2010-01-22 at 15:4 9:23.2 UTC
Location 9.55 N ; 84.13 W

Cool
Poor people do poor people things, and rich people do rich people things.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

when you rob Paul to give to Peter ... ... ... you will always get Peters support!

He said Rincón de la Viej. But that's not verifiable. He's not a native to the area so I'm only putting stock into the fact that he knows that they are trembling and has heard that emergency crews and locals are worried about volcanic activity.

I was in Costa Rica a few years ago when a Volcano blew (not Arenal). It wasn't a fun situation. At least Rincón de la Viej isn't near a major city center.

Yeah he said they were just tremors, but being new to the area he may be over reacting. I can't find much on it now on the web. I don't appear to have all my doom research tools available to me at the moment.

That site shows that nearby Seismographic stations have received data within the last 10 minutes. I still can't find more on Costa Rica. I know there are better sites out there than what I'm finding with searches. Maybe someone can lend a hand here...

 Quoting: Lil Miss Trouble

Arenal is an active volcano and is always spewing something. There is a nice resort below it, but that's pretty much it for that area. So it's common for Arenal to be yellow, orange, red, etc...

Curiously no one seems to remember that this time a year ago there were a total of twenty one volcanoes erupting. Yesterday when I checked at RSOE they have nearly fifty volcanoes erupting right now.

You peeps are slowing down on keeping good track of the present doom.

Take your pick:

Volcanoes of Costa Rica - John Seach

The volcanic arc in Costa Rica developed as a result of
subduction of the Cocos plate under the Caribbean plate.

Costa Rica lies close to 5 tectonic plates - Caribbean, Panama, Nazca, Cocos, and Atlantic.

Volcanoes of Costa Rica

Arenal
Orosi
Rincon de la Vieja
Miravalles
Tenorio
Platanar
Poas
Barva
Irazu
Turrialba

I'd bet on Turrialba, but it could be any of them.

COSTA RICA

Turrialbla Volcano Spews Out Helium, Forces Closure Of Two Schools. Experts are keeping a very close eye on the Turrialba volcano activity with the increase in the emanation of gases such as helium, sulphur and carbon dioxide. There have been important changes in the behaviour of the colossus and as such they have decided to maintain the yellow alert indefinitely.

The experts haven't ruled out the presence of lava in the volcano, but prefer not to alarm the population by speaking on the subject. The Cicanum helium measurement is reported to be a concentration of 20 parts per million, short of the highest ever measured at the volcano in the past of 30 ppm.

The measurements suggest the possibility of a "magmatic intrusion", the rise of molten rock into the earth's crust. For the time being, experts continue measuring gas emanations from the volcano and are reluctant to speculate on the possibility of an eruption despite the increased concentrations of helium in the recent days
