Natural remedies for a two year old with congested cough?

Well it comes in a bottle but honey and lemon cough syrup works pretty well. You can also make it yourself quite easily. You will need to google the exact recipe.

I was thinking about honey but wasnt sure if she would get a energy boost and not sleep at all tonight, but it is better than seeing her suffer.

My thouhts also. I have used this on my children and grands. Works better than anything else I tried.

Vicks rubbed on the bottom of the feet and put socks on will help the cough at night. Poor little thing. Hope she feels better soon.

Seriously though, think about drops of hydrogen peroxide in her ears. It has helped me out in the past.

chop up half an onion put it in an open plastic container
on the floor in her bedroom when she is asleep..
you can air the room during the day.
it's an old remedy but one I used when my child
was recovering from whooping cough.

For coughs...mix tobacco with oleo, Crisco, etc. Make a poultice and pin it around her throat area where the little indent is in her neck.

This has worked for me, many times and for every child I have tried it on.

Elderberry. It cured my 2.5 year of swine flu, nothing else worked. Get elderberry syrup at whole foods. Natures answer for kid's best company and product. 1 teaspoon 3-4 times a day. SAVED HER LIFE

Dont give her meat in these days and as little cooked food as possible. 2 teaspoons shredded carrots first thing in the morning, and fresh fruit/vegetable during the day. You will see the first results within 30 minutes.

All very good suggestions so far. Just keep a watch on how she's breathing, if her chest is sucking in.

Vaporizer with vicks, sucking out her nose (aspirating with the blue bulb), hydrogen peroxide, honey and lemon, poultices are all very good suggestions.

As far as the other poster, yes the OP can read all the natural cures on other sites but how many have actual feed back on if it really worked or not? Just saying.

Is 2 years old OK for honey? I would think so, but don't know the details on thatone.

Worked for my Mom and then me. I still do it when I get sick, grew up with constant bronchitis, it was the only thing that worked.

Bath, bourbon, bed. I would also sleep propped up.

Not to be mean or rude, but how many children do you have?

You talk to a doctor the first thing the majority of them do is give drugs for ANY problem.

After you have gone through the onslaught of childhood illnesses as a mom, you learn to judge if the pediatrician is only going to push "western" medicine (drugs) as opposed to basic old fashioned remedies that have worked for centuries. You also learn that unless the pediatrician has children as well they can sanctimonious little assholes that quote only book knowledge, not real world knowledge.

If you are lucky you find a pediatrician that actually wants you to let the infection run its course and will suggest common sense ideas, these are few and far between, you have to be adamant on natural cures when discussing your child's treatment with them.

OP, one other thing came to mind when someone posted about mucous inducing foods...avoid all dairy products until her congestion clears up.

You can ask your doctor about the BRAT diet...Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast. Dairy creates mucous so it should be severely limited during this time.

Honey is a very good idea.
Thyme with honey is even better.
Steam bath with thyme and thyme tea with a lot of honey.
Over night put some peppermint oil or vick in an oil burner so her sleeping room is filled with the scent.

A wrap with quark or lemon juice around the chest also helps.
You can do it over night.

All suggestions have been tried by myself on my own children at that age.

I used to give my son a small spoonful of blackbery wine (the cheap Mogen David kind). Worked great, but i think his coughs were more the tickle-in-the throat kind rather than congested. And, no, he didn't grow up to be a wino.

I use a homeopathic remedy called pulsatilla on my little ones and sage tea with honey when they are older,the pulsatilla works really well

another trick I use is a bowl with some brown paper in the bottom and some vinegar poured in...place it in the bedroom and it stops them from coughing during the night

Ask your doctor for a prescription for vitamin D.

If you doctor won't prescribe it or doesn't know the dosage you need, time to get another doctor.

If the doctor says, oh its just a cold, time to get another doctor.

There is now absolutely no doubt, that colds and flu are a SYMPTOM of vitamin D deficiency.

Any doctor that does not know this after that knowledge was released in studies 2 years ago, is not fit to practice medicine and is only in it for the money.

There is a global epidemic of vitamin D deficiency.
