Re: I quit smoking 2 months ago and now my chest feels tight
My chest didn't hurt (at least I never noticed) when I was a smoker... but now, after two months of ZERO smoke, my chest feels tight and weird. Anyone else ever hear of, or experience this?

Thanks!

BTW, Cold Turkey was my method.

^This.

If the lungs are ok and you don't have an infection it may also be a withdrawal symptom.

I have heard of many smokers having problems like panic attacks after quitting cold turkey.

It's probably a brain chemistry thing.

annnd this. when i stopped smoking, my chest felt tight once in a while and i'd panic and start freaking out thinking i was having a heart attack or something. i never really "craved" nicotine again, but along with stress at work it did take it's toll on me for a short while.

clearing my head and breathing and calming down made everything fine. probably like you said a chemical thing.

i feel 1000% better now though and i'm 1 year and 1 month into my smoke free life.

Re: I quit smoking 2 months ago and now my chest feels tight
I want so desperately to quit, but I just can't seem to last trying it cold turkey. I tried the patch a couple years ago, and that gave me intense, vidid nightmares every time I went to sleep after using it. I never wore it at night since it was one of the risks but it did not matter. Commit lozenges burn the shit out of the back of my throat so much that it's not worth it either.

So here I am puffing on an FSC right now.. I really just need to say fuck it and throw these things away.

I just recently quit, and I'm still a little surprised what finally did it for me. In the past I had tried just about everything; patches, nicotine gum, and cold turkey. None of these had any lasting affect on me. Then someone suggested I read "The Easy Way To Stop Smoking" ( [link to www.amazon.com] The book saved my life and made quitting easier than I ever thought possible. For under $10 it's certainly worth a try, especially if you are really wanting to quit.

Re: I quit smoking 2 months ago and now my chest feels tight
My reason for quitting was the same as yours and i quit cold turkey a year and a half ago actually this month...and it wasn't all that hard considering i was a plus two pack a day smoker. I smoked for over 40 years.

I didn't go through chest hurting but did go through quitter's flu and it lasted a few weeks.

the ONLY way i got through any of it in the first few months was to go outside, do a deep breathing rhythmic motion and use a mantra - I am one with divine action... and it helped and i never even sneaked another puff since then. I was a die hard smoker.

I feel great in the lung area however, i've never had so many colds and flus since I quit.. I think smoking kept me healthier.

O
happens...the same thing happend for me and lasted 1 month or so. but also my throat felt 100% tighter causing me to have problems just talking. it'll pass. the mental clearity that comes with it is nuts!

Thanks for sharing this. Like you, my throat also feels 100% tighter. I am so glad that it happened to someone else, and that it will someday pass.

Omg you dont understand how much of a releaf it is to hear that other people have the same problem as me! I thought something auful was going to happen to me. the only way i can desribe it is is that it feels like a tight pressure on your chest and every now and then it hurts when you breath it mostly happens at when im in bed and by morning i feel ok. I also get headaches that last up to 2 mins then go away then come back. How long will it last because its horrable![googlevid]

This exact thing happened to me. Tightness in chest and throat. Strange thing is this happened when I switched to 100% tobacco with no additives. I think what you are going thru is the withdrawal from the chemicals they add to mainstream cigs. It will pass.

It's not the nicotine. It's the 20,000+ chemicals they spray on it.

anxiety can also do that. when I quit cold turkey years ago I had all sorts of weird problems in my hands and feet. Nicotine changes the way your blood vessels constrict - and cessation has tons of symptoms. I don't think I could have quit without eventually getting the gum.

You can do it - every day of not-smoking is a better day for the people who love you. Hang in there. xx

What all of you QUITERS are experiencing is your loss of immunity to the chemtrails. You are now being fully poisoned, and you can expect to be thinking like a quack New Ager very shortly. It won't be long now before you think the way to defeat the New World Order is to just think positive and it will all go away on its own.

Re: I quit smoking 2 months ago and now my chest feels tight
I smoked for 4.5 years and about 3-4 days after quitting I started experiencing similar symptoms. It has been three months now and they are still occuring. A tightness, starting under my left pectoral and kind of extending an inch or so out from there. I also occasionally get partial numbness in my left arm and ears for short periods of time.

I have also smoked marijuana for 7 years and at the time I quit smoking cigarettes I was smoking about 4 grams a day (a lot) and have never had any anxiety or problems related to marijuana. Every time I smoke weed now the tightness in my chest gets exponentially worse, and occasionally driving on the highways makes it bad as well. I feel that it is just the inside of my lungs healing intensely and when caustic things enter the lungs it causes a shock to the healing process.

Re: I quit smoking 2 months ago and now my chest feels tight
Just to clarify: My chest didn't just start feeling tight tonight. Probably 3 to 4 days after I quit smoking, I noticed a definite tightness and pressure in my chest. The weird sensation sort of goes all the way up into my windpipe. I thought it would pass, but now nearly 2 months later, I still feel the weird tightness and pressure. I have been thinking that it is caused by the sudden stopping of smoking, but I don't know if anyone else has had the same sensations. Also, I'm wondering how long it will last.
 Quoting: Lady Ice

I know it is normal at first but not 2 months later, perhaps you should see a doctor. Sounds a bit like asthma, you probably felt it before but just blew it off thinking it was the smoking.

Re: I quit smoking 2 months ago and now my chest feels tight
OP,

After smoking 1 1/2 -2 packs per day for over 20 years I too started to experience tightness in my upper chest. I thought for sure I had COPD because it just wouldn't go away. About the only time I felt normal was when I first got out of bed in the morning.

The doctor told me I had Acid Reflux. Sure enough, after taking over the counter medication, the tightness/heaviness went away. Now, its something I take every 2 or 3 days to keep my Acid Reflux in check.

If your chest tightness hasn't gone away yet, try a good medicine for Acid Reflux for a couple of days and see if that's the problem.

Good Luck.

they put nano bots as additives in the major cigarette brands, these bots open your lungs up when you smoke and close your lungs up when you dont so that essentially you will need to smoke to breath.

its because when you smoke, just the act of smoking opens your chest on a regular basis... and now you just stop just like that so yeah... you quit a pattern so now you will feel the effect of gravity

Good for you....smoking kills....Several days after I quit I got the worst cold...I was so sick I never missed smoking...and then coughed for one wk solid....I believe you can quit but you have to be ready...I did cold turkey...no nicotine patches for me....

Now I feel wonderful...it has been three wks since I quit...no more going outside and hiding for that smoke...no more ducking behind a building...

I smoked for 8 yrs.....don't wont to even think of the money that i have spend on them not to mention what they may have done to my body....

Re: I quit smoking 2 months ago and now my chest feels tight
i quit smoking cold on new years, let me tell you first two months i thought i was gonna die, lungs had massive pain, pin like searing pain at times, hard to breathe, tight chest... the whole shebang. it will be 6 months soon... im doing an 8 minute mile now no problems, (i had a hard time with a 15 minute when i was a smoker). You'll notice that youll get flem and stuff for a whole wile longer, at around 5/6 months most of the pain should go away as it has for me... i seriously feel SO much better now... i remember the days when i had a cigarette and thought to myself... i feel like i wanna die from this stuff... best choice ever to quit..

quitting smoking sucks ass

i have been trying to quit and keep failing

now when i smoke my heart hurts for a few moments

scares me

not sure what's worse. smoking with breathing and heart issues, or being so emotionally fucked up without my cancerous little friend.

i am in torment

so... i decided to only smoke my wake up cig and my night time cig. maybe one day i can put em down for good.

and, i work out every day. helps a lot.

Not to stress you, but that sounds like vascular disease/heart disease. I DO have such a feeling after my heart attack. I am unsure of your diet, but you may want to get checked out. You could have a vessel or more clogged up.
