The full bloods DO NOT LIKE whites telling their minute percentage. Cause lots of it was done as rape against their women, not real good to claim to be part of vast raping of these people now is it? Bluebird User ID: 730536 United States 01/27/2010 11:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My maternal great-grandmother was Cherokee but she had an Anglo name as did others in the area where I was born. John Ross, etc. so was not that uncommon for Cherokees to have Anglo names. But I am very blue-eyed, blonde and none of it shows at all so I have wondered if it was true or if she was only half Cherokee and how she came to have Anglo name. Genetically, I appear to be pretty much Dutch/Dannish but I was born in a region with a large Cherokee presence many years ago so it is likely true despite my lack of physical traits. I have never tried to register with The Cherokee Nation but did think about it at one time. If I looked more like one, I think I would do it but as it is, doesn't seem really practical. Anonymous Coward User ID: 869067 United States 01/27/2010 12:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It is interesting that so many claim Cherokee heritage. We were told this also, but upon working up the geneaology, it turned out to be Choctaw. Maybe Cherokee is just used when the legend is passed down through the generations of the family. Someone mentioned black irsih and black dutch. One of my grandmothers claimed her mother was black dutch. She had black hair and bronze skin. Her maiden name was McDaniel. When we did her geneaology, we found that her parents had a different last name and their ages would not have allowed them to have a daughter her age (they were only a few years older than her) so perhaps she was adopted or living with some family members. My grandmother is gone so I can't ask her. Black Dutch was a term used by people with mixed bllod who were ashamed to admit to native ancestry. Note to everyone. If you have grandparents still living, ask them these questions, even if you aren't really interested in it now! At some point you will be interested in family history and you will no longer have anyone to ask! |

Even if someone came to have some Native American heritage because their ggg-grandmother was raped, it's not their fault in any way. Nobody needs your fucking permission to be proud of their Native American heritage, even if it's a minute amount, and regardless of how they got it. In fact, those who have ggg-grandmothers who were raped should be proud to claim them even more because of how they suffered. That is the ancestor they should be most proud to claim. Fuck you and the shame you are trying to put on people. There was a lot of voluntary inter-marriage going on between whites and Native Americans throughout the early history of America. And plenty of white women were taken captive by the Native Americans and raped. Shit happened. There is plenty of shame to go around, but the shame is only on the person who wronged another person. |
