The tribes could make more money, if they got a percentage of the DNA tests and would offer membership if over a certain marker. More people would try the testing then. I don't think the Native Americans want more members, though.

(i ask because i had this discussion with someone who claims native americans have other roots and other routes of origin.) other than the ice bridge alaskan route theory i ascribe to.

I don't know, but when I first heard of it my friend, who claims no native and I felt behind our teeths (I know, gross!LOL), I was shocked at how hers where very straight not the hump at the top. I thought everyones were like mine. I would have to think that if it is only found in asian and native american populations there would have to be some kind of link somewhere, but that's me just guessing.

well, since I was born here and all the food I have eaten in life was grown here I would say I do. However I have no American Indian blood in my that I know of.

Im on the regular membership for one tribe and decendent on the other (for hunting/fishing/gathering).

if your face is pale and you follow a religion from europe, asia or africa your are not native american, i'm tired of hearing all these pale faces, some with blue eyes and even blond hair, claim they have native american ancestry who cares if your great grandfather raped or kidnapped a native american women you are not native american, you are white. you either look like a native american and are native american, or you look like some other ethnicity and you are some other ethnicity.

It is common knowledge that most white people who claim Cherokee blood really have black ancestor and the same is true for black. Back in the day it was much more socially acceptable to claim a Cherokee ancestor then it was to be Mixed Black/White.

There are some physiological characteristics which are called ethnic markers, that seem to be passed on through the lines of some Melungeon descendants. There is a bump on the back of the HEAD of SOME descendants, that is located at mid-line, just ABOVE the juncture with the neck. It is about the size and shape of half a golf ball or smaller. This is called an ANATOLIAN BUMP, and indicates ancestry from the Anatolian region of Turkey. If you cannot find the bump, check to see if you, like some descendants, including myself, have a ridge, located at the base of the head where it joins the neck, rather than the Anatolian bump.

This ridge is an enlargement of the base of the skull, which is called a Central Asian Cranial Ridge. My ridge is quite noticeable. It is larger than anyone else's that I have felt, except my father's. I can lay one finger under it and the ridge is as deep as my finger is thick. Other ridges are smaller. To find a ridge, place your hand at the base of your neck where it joins your shoulders, and on the center line of your spine. Run your fingers straight up your neck toward your head. If you have a ridge, it will stop your fingers from going on up and across your head.
