The rockets, equipment and engineers that put American footprints on lunar soil have long been lost, junked or retired.
But itīs not all lost ... yet!
Thanks to, among others, to Matt Marriott, that saved the software and the hardware for the coming generations that will see the moon from a distance on their journey to Mars

Donīt waist your time trying to follow the links provided by one of the three search results, the NSA/CIA "debunkers" of badastronomy ... you will find zero, nill, nada. |

You forgot to give the link: from google search->badastronomy discussion-> first link provided by the NSA/CIA "debunkers":

I just wonder how could you read anything at all... |

NOW WE ARE FULLY ADVANCE IN TECHNOLOGY IT WILL BE MUCH EASIER FOR AMERICA AND OTHER COUNTRIES TO GO BACK TO THE MOON AND īREPEAT HISTORYī. SO WHY DONT WE THEN?? WHAT IS STOPPING US? IS IT BECAUSE THEY DONT WANT PEOPLE FINDING OUT THAT ITS A HOAX THIS TIME?? I THINK SO. LOOK AT THE LANDINGS BACK IN THE 60īS. WHAT DID U SEE?? MOST OF THE BACKGROUND WAS BLACK-EASILY BUILT IN A STUDIO.AND THERE ARE MORE BUT I CANT REMEMBER THEM BUT IF U GO SEARCH IN GOOGLE SOMETHING LIKE īWERE THE MOON LANDINGS A HOAX?ī YOU WILL FIND OUT MANY ANSWERS ASWELL AS THEORIES FROM THE PHOTOS ETC... |

"Itīs easier to find the source code for Apollo missions than the source code for the Boeing 747 flight control system. Yet we all trust our lives to the latter and donīt question that it exists.

Sure, thereīs a link for bin code and some pseudo link for the source: yaAGC/Colossus249/ |

have you found the 747 code yet? does the 747 exist yet? |

Very easy.
How much would it cost?
Are you willing to pay? If not, why do you expect that I should pay? |

Anonymous Coward 12/8/2005 10:07 AM | | Re: The Moon Landing Hoax - It´s not all lost ... yet! | Quote | if we already wentthere in the sixties why would we spend all that money again just to go back? that makes no sense. I think their not going back until they got some spaceship that can do more than a quick landing and go back home. it makes no sense to try to do just that again. |

Anonymous Coward 12/8/2005 10:07 AM | | Re: The Moon Landing Hoax - It´s not all lost ... yet! | Quote | Matt - Did you download the software at that link? The author has written a fully functional emulator for the Apollo computer based on nothing except the published specs and documentation you say doesnīt exist.
He has also written an assembler for the published machine architecture, and assembled the Luminary source code provided by MIT (who are the ones who wrote it). The code runs fine in his emulator, except for the parts that need outside peripherals like the IMU. This is source code you say doesnīt exist, although now you seem to be saying it "must" be some "other" code and not the real AGC code.
Matt, how many embedded systems did you *personally* design and build in the 1960s and 1970s? You seem to want us to believe youīre an expert on Cold War embedded logic. So Iīd like to look over some of your designs. |

What was your name on badastronomy? I would like to see why the people who you claim are part of the CIA banned you. You just say 2002. badastronomy has over 5000 members. Youīll be hard to find with just a year to search by. |

Anonymous Coward 12/8/2005 10:07 AM | | Re: The Moon Landing Hoax - It´s not all lost ... yet! | Quote | Regarding Mattīs link to CNN, the story is reasonably correct.
The Apollo equipment was for short missions. When we go back to the moon, it will be for an extended stay, and that requires rethinking the equipment a bit.
The article says the "equipment, tools, and plans" for the Saturn V were lost. The equipment and tools run -- in a conservative estimate -- to 200,000 individual construction and assembly aids. Tooling in aerospace is not a trivial thing, but it is generally ephemeral. When you stop producing something you routinely scrap the tooling and reuse parts of it.
NASA says the "plans" for the Saturn V are in the U.S. National Archives, but I have not been able to verify that. Again, laymen donīt realize that it takes literally millions of pieces of paper to undertake the design of something like a booster rocket, and not all of it is saved or deemed historical valuable. Very much of it is ephemeral as well and was almost certainly destroyed.
You donīt save anything by trying to recycle 30-year-old designs. We use different production and assembly processes than we did 30 years ago, because our new processes are often faster, cheaper, or more effective than what was possible back then. The way you plan to manufacture something influences the way you design it. And frankly we did things 30 years ago that we just canīt do today because of legal or other regulatory restrictions. So the best policy now is to start over, using the general principles from Apollo but not the actual designs or hardware. |
