Why do my eyelids flutter rapidly when trying to meditate?
When i close my eyes and look into the darkness my eyes start twitching rapidly and the darkness starts turning into a lighter version of darkness?

It could be from the strain of keeping them closed. It is much better if you use a blindfold, like those handed out to passengers on long night flights. That way your eyelids can relax.

Another explanation: When approaching a state of trance, it is not uncommon that arms and legs start to twitch a little. This is normal and a sign that you are on the right track. Maybe that could happen also with eyelids, then a blindfold would help you not to become distracted by it.

From what I learned in my hynotherapy training, fluttering eyelids is a sign that you are getting in touch with your subconscious mind.

It's a good sign;)

You cannot perceive darkness without light being there somewhere to compare with.

i experience this too. Got with it...you may find your third eye beginning to open. This feels as if you are starting to "see" but you know your eyes are closed. Sometimes my eyes roll back in my head too. It can hurt but go with it

Yes, I'm a certified hypnotherapist. I went to a school for it.

Re: Why do my eyelids flutter rapidly when trying to meditate?
i am experiencing the same thing, and popped this question to find out the answer. I like to meditate, however in my case this happens anytime..and nowadays it happens simply when i close my eyes too....also i agree with the possibilty of 3rd eye opening..as i had some beauttiiifull visions recently...so think if its not causing you any plain, then maybe u r on right track :)

Re: Why do my eyelids flutter rapidly when trying to meditate?
This happens to me constantly. I don't know what it could mean spiritually but I do know that I have really poor we sight and weak optic nerves, maybe you do too? In which case the twitching will never stop you will only learn to deal with it/ignore it.
