Obama's math doesn't add up
By Erick Erickson, Special to CNN
Editor's note: Erick Erickson is the editor in chief of RedState.com.

How the president will be able to cut the deficit while also increasing spending -- and not increasing taxes -- is a feat no president has ever accomplished and which this president also failed to explain in his speech.

Voters see the first stimulus as a failure, understand that few private sector jobs were created by it and know intrinsically that any new programs will just compound government spending.

For the past year, this president has used "Bush" as his favorite four-letter word. Wednesday, the president repeatedly spoke derisively about the prior administration and the problems the Obama administration inherited. But the voters have moved on from blaming George W. Bush -- and Obama did not show voters he gets that and gets that new government jobs and new government programs are not the order of the day.

As much as he would prefer the present economic situation to still be George W. Bush's fault, the return policy has expired, and Barack Obama must now own it.

He and the dummy-crats are outright lying when they say either one of the health care reform bills will reduce costs and reduce the deficit.

It is literally impossible to create over a hundred new federal health agencies to monitor us all and not have it cost far more than health care costs us now.

His latest idea of a freeze on some discretionary spending really doesn't cut out any departments and bureaus.

They could start with all the programs that the crazy guy in the question mark jacket advertises as "get free money" from the government and buy his book to find out how.

Well, it is not "free money", it is taxpayer money and all of those programs could be immediately eliminated.

Next shut down the ones that duplicate something another dept. does and the ones that no one even knows what they do.

We are in desperate need of a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. That is the only thing that will lead to actual cuts and control the outrageous spending that Congress tags onto each and every bill that is passed.

"We are in desperate need of a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution."

Excellent idea. With some common sense exceptions like in time of declared war etc. And it would give Congress an out for cutting programs. They could tell the voters back home they had to do it

not to get off topic here but I think this plays in as well. He stated that he saved/created 2 million jobs but according to www.recovery.gov he has only saved/created 640,329 as of 10/30/2009. Granted this was last updated in October but don't you find that strange. Shouldn't that site be updated at least monthly. Unless the figures don't add up.

The reasons his math does not work is a little obvious, was he taught math in Kenya?
Or was his math taught someplace else.

Perhaps he thinks he can borrow or print his way outa debt.

Or perhaps he intends to default on the debt.

Re: Obama's math doesn't add up
You know, I really think they intend to default on the debt. Do you know people who declared bankruptcy over the last couple of years, or had a house forclosed on? Did you notice how some of them, once they made that decision, spent even MORE wildly until the party ended cause they knew they weren't gonna have to ever pay it back?
