I will be collecting any hardware gifts they give to any of my clients. If I get enough, I can sell em on eBay! Thanks China! It is one level of warfare used to weaken or destroy a countries economy. Quoting: asymetriclogicTitan Rain [link to en.wikipedia.org] The Chinese have identified cyber-warfare as a key to asymmetric offense against the US and other “Western Powers” in the event of conflict. Our over reliance on just in time logistics and sophisticated electronics for C4ISR and Fire Control capabilities is seen as a major flaw in our Order of Battle. The US in particular is vulnerable to economic, political, and military consequences of disruptions to our electronic infrastructure. Case in point: during the short lived ATT no contract period union workers cut the primary, secondary and tertiary links into Silicon Valley. Damages are estimated to exceed 2 Billion dollars per day. The government, ATT, FBI and industry was helpless. Quiet leverage was placed on ATT to make the problem go away and they soon were offered a satisfactory contract to repair the “damage.” If a few malcontent laborers can wreck this much damage on the US economy, imagine how much a coordinated effort by foreign professionals could accomplish? Huawei Corporation, has infiltrated knock off CISCO routers into CIPRAnet and other secure military and financial networks. The knock offs are perfect even down to legitimate serial numbers. The routers and switches have been modified to give the PLA back door access to many of our most essential networks. The true scope of the damage is not yet known but every system built after LINKS 11 is suspect. To reward Huawei we allow key US technology companies to be sold to them and pass along vital security knowledge of how to control the electric grid and public utilities and insert Trojans that can be activated at will to disable said systems. This is a level of doom that is far greater than most of the crazy posting here and it is very real. Why waste the time with expensive and fault prone EMP devices in orbit when you can just turn our infrastructure off? Imagine if sewer, water, electric and gas lines suddenly stop pumping. All the fresh food in the grocery stores will spoil with out refrigeration and if the damage could not be repaired in 3 days we would likely see the complete break down of civil society in most populated areas. Only Mutually Assured Destruction prevents these nightmare scenarios from coming to pass. China knows we in turn can open the spill way to the Three Gorges Dam and probably far worse. It is truly a MAD world we live in. I blame Teller, Ulam, and Cohen et al…but the fact remains that we can not close Pandora’s Box. |
