I just chalked it up to technology and glitches. But now that you have said something - things that make ya go hmmmmmm...... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 82467052 United States 08/21/2022 01:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP, if I remember correctly the old AN-PVS 5's had a screw on filter on each eye piece called an "essler filter". It was supposed to prevent damage to the goggles from laser range finding devices of the time (a GLDD for instance) that were not eye safe. It pevented burnout of the optical electronics. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 833035 Just throwing that out there for what it's worth Searching on this, Essilor glasses, which block blue-violet light: Eyezen+ lenses block at least 20% of Harmful Blue Light, which is the high energy waves found between 415-455 nm (blue-violet light). Quoting: EssilorDicyanin lens are blue-violet. From the other thread linked about those glasses, A drawback to Kilner's method was the scarcity and toxicity of the chemicals he recommended. Later, the biologist Oscar Bagnall[5] recommended substituting the dye pinacyanol (dissolved in triethanolamine) but this dye is also not easy to obtain. Carl Edwin Lindgren has stated that cobalt blue and purple glass may be substituted for the dyes used by Kilner and Bagnall.[6] Quoting: [link to www.rexresearch.com] So - We're looking for a shade that blocks a specific frequency of light? |

Gulfcoaster User ID: 83817284 United States 08/21/2022 04:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It was something about night vision originally being red, but that frequency allowed for the visions to be seen. So, they made it green instead. Last Edited by Gulfcoaster on 08/21/2022 04:25 PM |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 42762838 United States 08/21/2022 05:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This. They photomultiplier tubes originally displayed everything in red, as an aid to maintaining night vision, but soldiers using them began to report seeing horrible things in them. It reached a point where the devices were recalled and new tubes installed, these using a green instead of red internal phosphor coating. Green is about the worst possible color to use for retaining night vision, as one is almost totally night-blind in the eye or eyes being used when the device(s) are removed, with recovery taking up to a minute or more. |

After half a century of researching this stuff, my standard advice is that if you decide to go out looking for UFOs, Bigfoot, Mothman or such, you should start by wetting your pants... because if you go out looking for them, they might find you. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 82467052 United States 08/21/2022 05:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is just for free, but you’d be wise to take my advice: if you get hold of night-vision gear, it would be wise not to make a practice of going out with them and intentionally looking for “odd” stuff with them. Would it be safe to go looking for angels? There are two kinds of angels, you know; how do you plan to tell one from another if you encounter them? It’s not as easy as you might think. I would strongly suggest that if you really want to see God’s angels, and not the ones that belong to that other fellow, you should pray about it. Otherwise, you might get a whole lot more than you bargained for. |
