Have you noticed that popular music is no longer as "popular" as it once was? How many golden oldie" radio stations does Sirius have? How many markets don't have "golden oldie" stations? How many young people listen to music by people now old enough to be their grandparents? |

Winningjob User ID: 385114 United States 02/04/2010 04:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No matter what century or if it is current music and no matter what style I still hear: 1. Chords, 2. Chord progressions 3. Key signature 4. Tempo 5. Modality 6. Modal Interchange Still with only seven modes and seven notes with only so many combination of chords, tensions and progressions. So...I don't really hear any difference. IN OTHER WORDS....a I IV V or even a jazz cadence (ii V I) is still the same now as it always was. When I hear classic rock, classical, jazz, ska, country, adult contmep., Musican theater, music scores for movies, electronica, blues, metal, hip hop, reggae, ska, folk, new world beat, latin, new beat or instrumental I still hear the same thing since the beginning...chords, chord changes, a tonic/do, modes, possible modulation and blue notes or tensions. As a basic rule of thumb i generally dont like anything that doesnt involve somebody playing an instrument. Its not set in stone as i do like some singers, they tend to be most old school, opera or whatever though. Atheist |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 794136 United States 02/04/2010 04:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's all been done before, riffs, ideas, all of it has all been done before, and much better at that. We're just hearing soul-less garbage, and new "artists" (if you can even call them that) rely on some cheesy image to sell, or tattooes, and studs through their noses to act like they have cred. And all that hip-hop crap sounds the same, it's the bottom of the barrel, it's pseudo-wannabe-thug-tough-guy-street-cred-no-identity-juvenile garbage. If I hear "yo what up dog" one more time I'm gonna puke. These morons are starving for an identity, any identity, to feel like they belong. Just look at the top 100, the epitome of disposable garbage, a celebration of mediocrity. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 861302 United States 02/04/2010 06:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga are obvious suck musically and lyrically and their voices. No one can deny that and if you do you're retarded. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 526155Now one can argue Beynonce has talent, however, the content is very vacant and negative these days compared to her early years. And we all know about her "altar ego" indicating she's another mind controlled puppet. SO WHO ARE THESE PUPPETS and why are the chosen? It's not for talent so what is it? Is it the fact that they so easily go along and never fight the PROGRAMMING? Is this an indication that these folks don't really have souls or the soul has left the vessel? I'm starting to feel much less "sorry" for the Rhiannas and the Taylors and the Jessicas. The spark inside anyone with a soul would fight this shit instead of going along with it like a vacant doll. I no longer support the entertainment industry monitarily and that's all I can do for your sick little Hollywood you all still pay for. Does this look like someone I should feel "sorry" for? [link to vigilantcitizen.com] Do you know what ACTUAL "Hollywood" is? It is what witches and sorcerers use to make a wand with. A wand to cast spells over people. Do you think that it's just a coincidence that Hollywood is casting a spell over much of the world? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 876332 United States 02/04/2010 06:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think it's been getting progressively worse since the mid 70's. Well, the 90's might be a little better than the 80's. The past decade, the uh-ohs or naughties or whatever you want to call it, was a total shit sandwich for "popular music." |

You seem to assume I don't like NEW music, but I do actually. Yet few of the POPULAR new music acts are true talent. And most people on this thread agree with me. It's not just some old fart like myself. It's older and younger people who still have their own minds. |

Like her or not, you have to admit she is super talented. |

mr...bojangles User ID: 884833 Mexico 02/09/2010 06:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | music today is all about polish..... nail polish, car polish, polish sausage..... recordings are too clean..... i like my music with errors in it........ cause at least i know it`s not a robot who is singing...... music today is too snobby......... and then you got the pimps and ho`s culture...... which kids take way too seriously....... try going to see one of these clowns? forget it...to expensive..... Beyond one's own mind there is no dazzling light to come shining in from outside to wake one up. If one recognizes one's own intrinsic State as pure from the beginning and only temporarily obscured by impurities, and if one maintains the presence of this recognition without becoming distracted, then all the impurities dissolve. This is the essence of the Path-namkhai norbu. Why is there a legend about the descent of Christ into hell? The Teacher addressed the lower strata of the astral world, saying: Why, by cherishing earthly thoughts, bind oneself eternally to Earth? And many revolted in spirit and rose higher.
