Drives me nuts too. It's like everybody copies Whitney Houston/Mariah Carey.

Even when I go see an 'alternative' band at a club - whenever there's a female singer there's always at least one song in which she sings the exact same way that EVERY OTHER chick sings these days. Same whenever I'm dragged to Karaoke.

They all need to put three octaves and five syllables into every single word. Not only that, but they seem to need to have gut-wrenching emotion in every single note.

Completely lost is the concept of 'phrasing' - an old jazz term that referred to the artist's unique style. They covered the same songs over and over but each singer made it his or her own.

A really good singer should know when to ease off, and when to push the emotions - a song should be like a three-act play - start off slowly, ease into the song, then at the climax (the last verse) is when he or she should really belt it out. But girls these days do that in the first bar.

Billie Holiday for instance, by modern standards would be a crap singer - half octave vocal range, would often falter on her notes - but she was BRILLIANT.

and what happend to instruments?most pop-music is made with a computer and the singers can't sing anymore!in my class there whas someone who had never heard of the beatles.i ask myself why is new always better(in the eyes of the other teenagers)

Good music is still out there if you are willing to look, it's the music industry that keeps on producing this terrible music to the early teen market.

The only band/s I can ever contemplate listening to these days are Serj Tankian, System of a Down, Scars of Broadway, Venetian Snares and Neutral Milk Hotel. All of which origionated in their own style and self-released the albums origionally by themselves.

There are artists that go the NWO/Illuminati/UFO route but are so corporatised by the Music Label that they become the thing they set out against, even RATM whored themselves for the name of monetary values and didn't oppose the Christmas deal funded by Simon Cowell to push them to the Xmas no1 spot.

Ive listen to vast branches of music from Black Metal to Blues, nothing at all interests me outside the bands I've listed. As mentioned already its all generic and washed down for the masses, anyone with a ounce of credibility who starts out soon gets caught by the fame and fortune and forgets their message. Its a sad fact that Capitalism is whats destroying the music culture of today.

eVEN MY 20 YR OLD SON likes the old music, but they have redone it w/ new singers and a new melody a bit.He thinks it's new and is proud to show it off to me, while i'm ROTFL.
tHE OLDER MUSIC IS BETTER. I can't see dancing now or later to the new music. Occassionally I hear an interesting one.

You are correct, popular music is terrible. The Grammys use to be people's dream. Now that someone like Taylor-Can't-Sing-Swift has one it's all gone down hill. People listen to radio now not because it contains good songs, but because it's the radio. Thus the audience encourages the crap music business we have.
