O, so it's because the people who were helping were Christians. And the Haitian government didn't want the children to be 'influenced' by Christians?

Well, then all of the Christian Missionaries who have been helping Haiti all of these years should leave them to their own demise. Works for me. Take their good works where they will be appreciated. Sounds Right.

Now they are arresting inexperienced Christians. Yeah, that tells me every thing. I won't be donating another dime for disaster relief again. I feel like we donated too much to Haiti, especially in light of this.

The reason they got the attention of customs at the border, was because one of the little girls they were trying to steal, was frantically crying that she wasn't an orphan, you ignorant little douchebag.

I'm not the original responder to your comment. However I did in fact see an interview with the child. Yes she was crying and yes she very adamantly asserted that she was not an orphan.

So unless you have proof verifiable that the child in question was lying, then perhaps you might not run at the mouth so much about believing what you don't see with your eyes.

And not that it matters, as it's not likely to matter to your kind, but I am a conservative woman, who just has a thing about people stealing kids. Go figure, I'm just funny like that.

The Haitian people must be some of the most ungrateful people on earth. I say pull all Americans out of their crap hole of a "Nation" if you can even call it that. Lets see the Haitian people feed themselves, the ingrates. They really act like the whole world should just give them anything they ask for like they deserve it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 882161

oh I see.
Because the same people who caused the conditions they were living under in the first place, comes in with some "charity", they are supposed to gratefully allow their kids to be kidnapped.

crazy mufukkas you yurugus.

The rest of the world would have helped Haiti out just fine without expecting them to let their children be carted off and used in god knows what kind of matter

The fact that the child was crying and wants to be with her parents only proves that she has them.

Not that they wanted her.

Re: U.S. missionaries charged with kidnapping in Haiti
Just like I thought...you have not been there..otherwise you would have said so. I'm not saying what the church group did was right..the mistakes they made was not paying the bribes at the border. If the one girl wanted to go home...take her. Her family would probably whip her and kick her out upon the return, but that is a lot better...RIGHT? Your position is to jump through every hoop the corrupt government sets up, wait 2 or 3 years after paying bribes to every lackey on the take down there and everything will be ok. Maybe the child will still be alive. 90% of them will die if your advice is adhered to. Irregardless of how much you think you are an insider, you know very little about the real Haiti.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 882460

Well there you have it. You believe all Haitian are animals and could not possibly love their children. How can one even begin to hold a logical discourse with you? I am saddened that your moral compass is so utterly broken.

My husband and I do visit, no not as often as we would like, but we do try to make it down to see his cousins and auntie every few years. We were last there in August of '05.

I am also an immigrant born in a 3rd world country. I think that I GET what being impoverished means and I GET the horrors that such societies breed. However when we start to draw lines in the sand over who does or doesn't deserve to keep their children, that is a slippery slope that a civilized society should not traverse.

However feel free to hold firm to your delusions of grandeur. You alone, all knowing, never wrong. I will hold to knowing right from wrong.

Re: U.S. missionaries charged with kidnapping in Haiti
Port-au-Prince, Haiti (CNN) -- Ten Americans who were detained last week while trying to take 33 Haitian children out of the country were charged Thursday with kidnapping children and criminal association, a government official said.

Information Minister Marie Laurence Lassegue's announcement came shortly after the five men and five women left a hearing at the prosecutor's office.

The Americans -- members of a church group -- got into two vehicles, which were driven back to the jail where they have been held since they were taken into custody. Appearing solemn, they did not respond to questions from reporters. A few sang hymns.

The Americans were turned back Friday as they tried to take the children across the border into the Dominican Republic without proper documentation. They said they were going to house them in a converted hotel in that country and later move them to an orphanage they were building there.

The Americans have said they were just trying to help the children leave the earthquake-stricken country.

Some of the detained Americans have said they thought they were helping orphans, but their interpreters said Wednesday that they were present when group members spoke with the children's parents. Some parents in a village outside Port-au-Prince said they had willingly given their children over to the Americans, who promised them a better life and who said they could see their children whenever they wanted to.

Government approval is needed for any Haitian child to leave the country, and the group acknowledged that the children had no passports.

Some members of the group belong to the Central Valley Baptist Church in Meridian, Idaho.

P.J. Crowley, a spokesman for the U.S. State Department, has said that U.S. officials have been given unlimited consular access to the Americans and that U.S. and Haitian authorities are "working to try to ascertain what happened [and] the motive behind these people.

"Clearly, there are questions about procedure as to whether they had the appropriate paperwork to move the children," he said Wednesday.

Know this : "We aint in Kansas no more". You all got to realize that you are in a foreign country. You have got to follow "the rule of law" FOR THE FUCKING COUNTRY YOU ARE IN. How many times have we seen some poor American IDIOT understand the situation, too late ? It is called Napoleanic law. You all are guilty until you prove your sorry asses not guilty. In some countries they just lock you up until the trial. They can have you in jail for a very long time as an automatic S.O.P. This gives the authorities time to develop a case against the child molester.

Re: U.S. missionaries charged with kidnapping in Haiti
Truthfully, this is why so many people don't get involved.
I imagine that right about now these open hearted but naive people are wishing they had stayed in the comfort of their own lives and left the Haitians to fend for themselves.

IT is chaos there!
Buildings including records and government destroyed.
People living in the streets, going without human necessities.

These people might have acted in a way they shouldn't have by trying to move the kids to an orphanage in DR but don't intentions count for anything?

They were trying to save starving, frightened kids.
Maybe they shouldn't have done it, or did it wrong, but surely we can have some humanity and not charge them and put them away for kidnapping.

Where the HELL is Clinton!
She should be there helping AMERICANS in trouble overseas.
She should be negotiating behind the scenes and she should use the considerable help and finance we have been giving them as leverage.

Let these poor people go home.

In the future....when there is chaos....stay home and let the red cross deal with it.
 Quoting: Say-It-Loud 882372

The US has stepped back and said Haiti can deal with them. The US will not help at all. Be careful people when going to a foreign country because US laws will not apply. You are under that country's law. I am careful to never step foot on foreign soil. I know what happens and you are on your own even if you are innocent.

This story was bizarre from the beginning. 33 children taken but somehow they were caught at the border in what must be a pretty chaotic situation. Hmm. The early video of these so called ‘Christians’ revealed to me some very dark people. For those of us who can SEE, one look at that early FOX footage should’ve raised red flags.

I’ve been wondering why the MSM covered this so early on in the development of the events. It was given a lot of exposure. Too much, if you ask me. Something deeper is going on with this.

Sure the MSM love to slander Christianity, but is there something else? These guys were no-bodies in the occult world or else they wouldn’t have gotten caught.
 Quoting: A Nagual

33 children? According to our conspiracy theorists on here 33 is an important number to the illuminati and they communicate with these numbers put in news articles.

There is something wrong with this whole trafficking of children by this 'religious' group. Glad they got caught until they can be investigated. So glad the guard stopped them because of that crying child. Who knows what they were going to do with them.

Yea what were those people thinking. Trying to take those kids out of that Utopia they call Haiti and bringing them to America ughh. They should all go to jail, we all know kids in Haiti have it so great who would ever want to leave. Umm whats on the menu tonight for the Haitian family, fried rat or boiled shoe leather mhhm mhhhm good.

That just smacks of arrogance. "America is so wonderful surely every child would want to be torn from their parents to be here." Some things in life have more value than Escalades and Wide screen TVs family being one of them. It's sad if we as Americans have forgotten that.

Go live in Haiti then. I hear it's wonderful this time of year, what with all the poverty and crime. I can assure you wont have to worry about those evil wide screen tv's there.

Where's the logic in that? I just said family is more important than material possessions so why would I go to Haiti when my family is in America. But sure if my choice was between living in America with a nice big TV and losing my wife and kids and living in Haiti with my family I'd be there in a minute. I'm sorry if you think differently. Family and community used to be the most important things in American it's a pity that's gone but whatever makes you happy huh?
 Quoting: all2human

There seems to be a serious lack of logic available in the US anymore - the same people saying shit like this are the same ones that wouldn't lift a finger to help their neighbor, or maybe a relative who lost their homes, because it's "their fault, so fuck them". Incidentally, the "pandemonium" is largely due to the military takeover there.

Re: U.S. missionaries charged with kidnapping in Haiti
Mormons are some of the most arrogant and demented of church-workers, in a group that is already richly detested the world over: missionaries. A short hiatus in a Haitian jail is just the dressing-down they need and if the Haitians decide to keep them, why should we complain?

Uh, not to nit pick but these were actually Baptists not Mormons.
 Quoting: Headhigh

Were they indeed? I had read elsewhere that they are Mormons. You may be correct, and according to my mother, who grew up in a Southern Baptist community, the Baptists are just as bad. I saw them on that cursed CNN (always trying to create disturbance even where there be none) singing hymns. Let them sing in their cooking pots with the 'natives' dancing about it in grass skirts, as in the old cartoons.

It's also what annoys me most when ppl say that unemployed ppl should just 'move to where the jobs are'. So everyone should completely uproot all social ties and just live like some nomad while corporations play one state or region off another in the hunt for the cheapest worker?
