Vatican Observatory Relocated

Italian media reports that the Vatican Observatory at Castel Gandolfo (the pope's retreat estate outside Rome) will be moved to a different building, to free up space for a guest house. The Observatory has occupied its present building since 1891.

"A library with over 20,000 rare books, an extensive collection of meteorites(???) and the residences of the scientists will all be transferred to an old convent, located one and a half kilometres away from Castel Gandolfo."

The director of the Observatory said that the move will provide a "more comfortable" facility.

An interesting aside: there is a second official Vatican observatory, located atop Mount Graham in Arizona.

I saw a bunch of mayors, fire chiefs, commissioners, board or directors, and other county officials just in the last few weeks. I was just focusing on CEOs.

Housing development agency official unexpectedly resigns

JEFFERSON CITY | The executive director of the Missouri Housing Development Commission unexpectedly announced his resignation this week.

In a three-sentence letter to commissioners, Pete Ramsel said he would leave the office March 1, but offered no reason for the decision.

He could not be reached for comment, and commission officials did not return calls seeking comment.

The Vatican Library closes for three years

The Vatican Library will be closed to the public starting July 14, 2007, for important refurbishment works which are expected to last for three years. The refurbishment could not be delayed because of serious structural problems in a wing of the sixteenth-century building which houses the Library. Technicians have established that it is impossible to reinforce the floors and other structures without closing the Library to the public. The management of the Library had sought to avoid inconvenience for the public, e. g. by moving more than 300,000 volumes out of the areas where the floors had begun to weaken; but the experts have decided that the refurbishment works could not be postponed. Once the necessity of the structural work had been established, it was decided to take this opportunity to modernize certain parts of the building, including new air conditioners and elevators. Likewise, a general reorganization of the Library’s collections will also be undertaken.

During the closure, many of the Library’s books will be moved to temporary stacks. However, copies of manuscripts and of rare books are available through the photographic reproduction service, which will continue to operate. Orders may be made, as usual, by following the instructions which may be found on this site (Photographic Reproductions).

Please note that the Vatican Film Library of the University of St. Louis, USA, has in its possession more than 37,000 microfilms of manuscripts from our library, including most of the collections of manuscripts in Greek, Latin, and modern languages, as well as some material in Arabic, Hebrew and Ethiopian. The Vatican Film Library also possesses a large collection of manuscript catalogues, including all the published catalogues and copies of the unpublished inventories of the Vatican Library, the complete “Studi e Testi” series, and many works on palaeography, codicology, miniature painting and other disciplines which are useful for the study of manuscripts and of their texts. It also possesses the microfiche edition of the Palatine Library (more than 12,000 printed books) and of the Cicognara Library (more than 4,800 titles on art history, architecture and archaeology).

Just in: R’ Leib Tropper has resigned as the rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Kol Yaakov on Maple Avenue in Monsey, NY. The move comes a month and a half after he resigned from his position at the Eternal Jewish Family (EJF) “to pursue a variety of other interests.” Efforts to contact him for comment regarding his most recent resignation have proved fruitless.

Speak for yourself. Some chose to sit around and suck their thumbs. While others choose to stand up and get busy...and I'm all out of thumbs.

RI administration, revenue official resigns

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—The head of the Rhode Island Department of Administration and Department of Revenue is stepping down.

Gov. Don Carcieri (kuh-CHEHR'-ee) on Thursday announced that Gary Sasse (SASS') will leave the jobs on March 1.

Carcieri spokeswoman Amy Kempe (KEMP') says she's not privy to Sasse's plans, but knows he was presented with what she called "great opportunities."

I wouldn't be so concerned with floods. God said he will never flood the lands like that again. This time its "hail of fire"...similar to Sodom and Gomorrah. It is to burn 1/3 of the planet. The good part is that fires don't burn forever.

If CMEs pickup, expect to loose the grid. When that happens, stay away from the nuclear reactors for most will melt down.

In his letter of resignation, Bishop Anis says that his presence on what was formerly the Joint Standing Committee of the An­gli­can Consult­ative Council (ACC), and at the Primates’ Meeting, “has no value whatsoever”, and that his voice “is like a useless cry in the wilderness”.

He said he would not flood the "WHOLE OF THE EARTH" again.

ATLANTIC CITY — A senior executive at the state Casino Reinvestment Development Authority is resigning from her $131,000-per-year job, opening up a key position for Gov. Chris Christie to fill as he moves ahead with plans to shake up the agency.

Nancy Wattson, chief financial officer and a CRDA employee since 1996, will leave the authority March 17 for unspecified “personal reasons,” officials confirmed Tuesday.

Why does everybody think the world is coming to an end just because some CEO's take their bags and leave? These ARE difficult times, economically, and businesses are struggling. In such circumstances CEO replacements are frequent in the hope a new one can turn the tide. Nothing extraordinary there.

The October 1981 issue of the German magazine Stimme des Glaubens reported on a discussion that Pope John Paul II had with a select group of German Catholics, in November of 1980. The following is a verbatim report of the discussion:1

Text of the Published Report

The Holy Father was asked, "What about the Third Secret of Fatima? Should it not have already been published by 1960?"

Pope John Paul II replied: "Given the seriousness of the contents, my predecessors in the Petrine office diplomatically preferred to postpone publication so as not to encourage the world power of Communism to make certain moves.

"On the other hand, it should be sufficient for all Christians to know this: if there is a message in which it is written that the oceans will flood whole areas of the earth, and that from one moment to the next millions of people will perish, truly the publication of such a message is no longer something to be so much desired."
The Pope continued: "Many wish to know simply from curiosity and a taste for the sensational, but they forget that knowledge also implies responsibility. They only seek the satisfaction of their curiosity, and that is dangerous if at the same time they are not disposed to do something, and if they are convinced that it is impossible to do anything against evil."

At this point the Pope grasped a Rosary and said: "Here is the remedy against this evil. Pray, pray, and ask for nothing more. Leave everything else to the Mother of God."

The Holy Father was then asked: "What is going to happen to the Church?"

He answered: "We must prepare ourselves to suffer great trials before long, such as will demand of us a disposition to give up even life, and a total dedication to Christ and for Christ … With your and my prayer it is possible to mitigate this tribulation, but it is no longer possible to avert it, because only thus can the Church be effectively renewed. How many times has the renewal of the Church sprung from blood! This time, too, it will not be otherwise. We must be strong and prepared, and trust in Christ and His Mother, and be very, very assiduous in praying the Rosary."

What it Means

When Pope John Paul II spoke at Fulda, he had not yet been the victim of the 1981 assassination attempt. Speaking of the Third Secret of Fatima, he did not allude to anything resembling a future assassination attempt (which in 2000 the Vatican announced to be the subject of the final part of the Secret that Our Lady revealed at Fatima in 1917), but rather to imminent chastisement and worldwide tribulation.

The Holy Father implied that evil is the force behind the elements contained in the Third Secret. The themes alluded to here by the Holy Father are consistent with those considered by leading Fatima experts to be the substance of the real Third Secret of Fatima, and are discussed in detail in the article "The Real Third Secret".

Volvo chairman Johnsson resigns in unexpected move

The chairman of Volvo, the world's second biggest truck maker, resigned on Friday in what analysts said was a surprising move just three months away from the firm's annual general meeting.

Finn Johnsson, who had chaired Volvo's board since 2004, cited "increasingly comprehensive assignments" as his reason for stepping down. He will be replaced by Louis Schweitzer, chairman of AstraZeneca, until the next AGM.
