But that's not why the school did it. The principal told him if he liked them so much he should move back to Indianapolis.

Seriously, the kid was stupid for wearing a Colts Jersey.

1. He will get called "loser" as the Colts lost.
2. He most likely got sent home so that the other students wouldn't hit him.
3. Good forward thinking by the principal to protect the child from his own stupidity.
4. Football fans are obnoxious assholes who can turn quite violent if someone shows disrespect for the local team.
5. It's the South, things a little different down there.

Why should any attorneys be involved? Very litigious society nowadays as you wonder why the schools can't teach the kids? They're afraid of getting sued for the slightest things.

Furthermore, apparently it was a school rule that you could ONLY wear black and gold, which is bullshit too. Again another example of obey, obey, obey, or you will get punished.

The options the kids were given was the usual school uniform or Saints attire. The kid didnt comply with either. This isnt an issue of freedom of expression, if he didnt want to wear Saints gear, he could have worn the required school attire. I admit, its a bit petty, but rules are rules.

It exists, and will continue to exist, as long as just one person exercises it.

Look at it this way.

Freedom of expression is like a substance that burns.

You can try and put out this burning substance, but it is so volatile that if just one minuscule molecule of the stuff isn't put out, it will spread again.

Not only that, but you could look around and say " ok all the molecules are extinguished."

That doesn't matter though because these little molecules can all of a sudden decide that they want to start burning again.

It's a fire that will never be put out.

This kid and his parents are going to be very rich, and the principal is going to be very sorry.

That's what happens though when you put morons in positions of authority.

Sorry, I'd rather keep my freedoms, then have them taken away for "protection", but if you'd rather give up yours then have at it. Don't blame me when you don't have any anymore, cause you let it happen yourself.

And I think it is too an issue of freedom of expression, because as a Colts fan he wished to exercise that right but because of bullshit control rules, he couldn't. So yeah it is very much an issue of freedom of expression to me.

freedom of expression and speech inst to just protect polite expression but all forms. if anyone has a problem with that then they have a problem with the us constitution. its not nice but its a free country regardless of someone else's OPINION.

Well then why have any rules in society? Lets abolish speed limits and drinking ages while we're at it.

In some ways maybe we shouldn't have so many, and I'm not crazy about drinking age laws either. Other countries drink wine with every meal moderately and they do just fine.

Those rules are entirely different though from this one. For example speeding can kill people, this on the other hand harms nothing except for fragile egos.

uniform codes are usually put in place by school boards, and the principal over stepped his authority by making a change even if for one day. and what if the kid showed up in his own schools football team jersey, that wouldn't be a saints jersey either, would he still have gotten sent home?

The school has a uniform, and when kids don't show up in proper attire they're sent home. If the story line said "kid sent home for wearing a halloween outfit to school and not the school uniform", I doubt seriously we'd hear any outcry for self expression and how unfair it all is.

The school wanted to let the kids that wanted to support the local team (Saints) do so. If they didn't want to participate they didn't have to.

This kid chose to wear something that wasn't authorized and he was justifiably sent home. This isn't about bashing the other team, its about complying with the rules. Like the rules, or not, they are what they are and this kid didn't comply by choice.

Streaking is illegal, hurts nobody, but its not a socially accepted practice. I'm sure there must be hundreds of examples of behavior that is socially unacceptable and has consequences that really doesn't hurt anyone else. This is one of those cases.

The school doesn't have 'free dress' anyway. They have a school uniform, so why isn't there an outcry over that to begin with if freedom of expression is being supressed here? Why can't they wear jeans and T-shirts? I don't know, but if they come in those you can guarantee they'll be shown the exit as well.

It's just the rules of the local society, and you learn to live with them, or you suffer the consequences of your actions.
