Animals are very survival smart. It's their existance.
A coupleyears ago we were fishing in dense fog about 5 miles off shore and a sparrow landed up on the rocket lauchers. It was panting heavily, then walked across the canopy, jumped down on the bow and slept for 3 hours. We trolled in and when it could see the harbor it flew away.
