kat User ID: 863839 United States 02/15/2010 09:00 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You are very lucky. Take stock of the stuff you use everyday and bring plenty of those things. When you run out, make sure you keep a list because when you go shopping it will not be that easy for you to go back out and get what you forgot. Think about keeping some chickens. Get a good dog and a cat. Figure out where you can plant a garden. Join a buying club or a co-op so you can get the good stuff you need in bulk. And this is the time of year to be working on your fire wood, if that is what you use. If you are cutting your own, February is the perfect month in the north to take your trees down to starting cutting and splitting for the coming season. If you have to buy wood, buy the green stuff now. It will be cheaper and will be perfect for next burning season. What sort of out buildings do you have, if any? You may want to build a small barn/shed, wood shed, shelter to keep a couple of sheep or a goat or two. Some of the pre-fab sheds can work well for these purposes. It is about being self-sufficient in anyway you can. Any place to fish? Don't forget your fishing gear. And don't forget a shotgun and ammo. Keep it behind your door. Makes you feel all warm and cozy. I so miss my back-to-the-land life. The good, ole days. No good deed goes unpunished. |
