Anonymous Coward User ID: 892581 Germany 02/16/2010 10:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | With people out there who don't even wash their hands daily it's no wonder why stuff spreads so fast. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 890320Nah quite the opposite, if you wash your hands too much, your body will not be trained to fight and you`ll get it quite more easily I see where kids that grew up playing in the dirt were never sick while the kids living in white glove enviroments stayed sick. fact Yes ... this is a proven FACT. Scientists are even developing vaccines with basically "dirt" in it to give to young children in citys who do not play in the mud like children on the land. |

While it has not been confirmed, it could be a Norwalk-type virus, a highly contagious illness often blamed for similar outbreaks on cruise ships. The best prevention is to frequently wash your hands throughout the day, said Patrick Johnson, administrator of the county Health Department. Those afflicted include adults and children from different schools but not all the calls are school-related, Johnson said. "For some reason, we have had an explosive outbreak," Johnson said Monday. Sick people should be isolated at home, he said. When they start getting better, they should stay home and not go to work or school for two or three days. The virus is not airborne; it's spread either from direct person-to-person contact or by someone touching something sullied by the virus and then touching, usually, their mouth, Johnson said. The Health Department hopes to find the cause this week. Florida Hospital Flagler has seen 34 people since Friday with a few coming in on Monday, said Lindsay Rew, a spokeswoman. All have been treated and released. [link to www.news-journalonline.com] What I find interesting about this is that there has been no confirmation of what causes this but everyone has been treated and released...How do you treat something if you don't know what it is? It scares me the way Doctors just start treating stuff like this without knowing what is causing it. |

It scares me the way Doctors just start treating stuff like this without knowing what is causing it. Local news just said Flagler Health Department (a misnomer) will release findings of exact cause tomorrow or Thursday. I lived in Flager County in 1998 during the wildfires. I took my family to the Marineland Hotel when it started raining burning pine needles. We had to hide from the State Police when they evacuated the County the following day. Then the Flagler Emergency Services directed evacuees west on State Road 100 into the wildfire. The wildfire jumped the road and trapped drivers, who then were forced to turn around to escape the flames. |

Standard cleanliness is VERY important for not spreading disease. That means washing your damn hands after wiping your butt...or playing in the dirt whatever. Don't wipe your nose and then touch things that other people will come into contact with. |
