Citigroup Warns Customers It May Refuse To Allow Withdrawals
The image of banks locking their doors to keep customers from making withdrawals during a bank run is what immediately came to mind when we heard that Citigroup was telling customers it has the right to prevent any withdrawals from checking accounts for seven days.

"Effective April 1, 2010, we reserve the right to require (7) days advance notice before permitting a withdrawal from all checking accounts. While we do not currently exercise this right and have not exercised it in the past, we are required by law to notify you of this change," Citigroup said on statements received by customers all over the country.

What's going on? It seems that this is something of an error. The seven day notice policy only applies to customers in Texas, Ira Stoll reports at The Future of Capitalism. It was accidentally included on customer statements nationwide.

"Whatever the explanation, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence in Citi," Stoll writes. "But it's hard to believe a bank would be sending out a notice like that on its statements."

Well, isn't that nice.

They want seven days notice to give you your own money...what's next, a permission slip from Mom?

Banks need a reality check, and soon. Hopefully, people will start exercising their opinions with their wallet.

Take your money to a credit union, or stick it in a sock under the mattress!

Citi Bank, JP Morgan and BOA were all involved in restructuring China's economy back about 4-5 years ago.

Nothing could be further from the truth. The only way this economy will be fixed and america can once again be a country of true "free enterprise" is if we get back to the basics of community first...bring back the manufacturing jobs...and empose term limits on the political crooks. It all starts with the local communities and that means supporting mom and pop rather than the corporate scam artists.

What a huge error for a bank that's already being kept alive solely due to its criminal friends.

If that came in the mail on Friday, there could be a lot of Citibank customers withdrawing their money on Monday.

IOW, don't worry about the April 1st notice, because they might not make it that far. The new DOOM date has just been moved up.

No doom, Citigroup is just notifying people of the law.

My question is, are more than one bank declaring this right to refuse withdrawals in the state of Texas?

What's the issue with Texas customers making withdrawals?

If anyone is truly interested in what they can do to combat the fascism that is quickly engulfing the United States listen to Gerald Celente. He is spot on about how to fix this mess we are in. There is no other way. And yes...we are quickly turning into a fascist state..not a socialist country as so many misguided souls believe. Fascism is the merger of state and corporate powers and that is exactly what is happening. On a side note..it has been reported that wal-mart had a bad quarter. ABSOLUTELY FRICKING WONDERFUL. Maybe the sheeple are starting to wake up and we can send all that made in china crap back where it belongs. MADE IN AMERICA is the only way to go. peace

that is what would steam me..

but when i closed out a cd from citi last year they really pressured me to stay and open checking etc. then the rep asked what do you plan to do with the money?

I said why do you need to know what i'm going to do with my money?

I was getting pissed off at that point and then she goes on to all the other products and funds..I just said I am remodeling my kitchen and need it now.

of course that was not true.

i would like to see banks siuupply customers with a detailed account as what they are doing with depoositors money and depositors should say hey i don;t want you doing that with my money..(like bad home loans)

Once again..this is untrue as far as credit unions and other banks. You support your local small bank. Put your money there. Citibank is just big and big does'nt mean better.
