Anonymous Coward User ID: 564424 United States 02/22/2010 01:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is just a portable power plant. Nothing special. They will put one on your property and sell you electricity cheaper then the local power company. That is all. It might be more efficient too, but that's not really anything impressive. It's easy to be more efficient then the power company if you can plop your generator down, at the place you need the power. Nothing special here, and truthfully, I hope the company tanks. This is not what we need. We need REAL alternative power solutions. Not just the same system miniaturized and plopped onto our lawns. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 897911 Canada 02/22/2010 01:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | this is such a useless topic to start. Unless your topic has the words zero-point in it, and can be made cheaply by anyone with minimal technical experience, and uses no polluting fuel, then im listening the reason why we dont have cheap alternative wide spread independent energy to power our homes is because that would collapse the entire oil industry, the entire automotive industry would be destroyed, all of the power plants across the globe would become trash heaps, and we would have a totally changed world, you see how drastic this topic is? so dont go fuckin around with oh we're close but it costs a million dollars, psh! the only reason why a cheap or free independent energy device is not out on your local Home Depot shelves is because of corporate/government interests in keeping you controlled and weak and without your own power. Keeping you working for your power bills. It's a big part of the control system. zero-point energy literally means the end of life as we know it. zero-point energy, then we're talking!!! |

It is far beyond a time that any US company start giving JOBS away somewhere else. Americans need JOBS NOW. Not next week, next month or next year. Not one more penny of Stimulous Money should go out without a proven creation of jobs for Americans now. Period. Not a Wall Street bailout, not a bank bailout there is no too big to fail. Get it up or shut up. Energy was the big plan, the big "secret" in the last administration. Let it be the big fast track open plan NOW, create JOBS, create POWER, create RECOVERY. Not some stupid none ending war machinery bull. Real, in our homes, in our country, self reliance. Quit talking about it and do it. Also think about BUILDING PUBLIC CLINICS and HOSPITALS, right now, staffed with Public Employees (oh my goodness....JOBS) for the poor. More self reliant folks can still get insurance and go private for advanced care......Oh my goodness,,,,JOBS. PUT AMERICAN BUILDERS back to work.....PUT AMERICAN NURSES< COOKS< CLEANERS< MAINT. STAFF back to work. Put an industry of medical suppliers back to work. Get it all moving and you will STIMULATE the ECONOMY. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 896300The only real savings, is that these units don't have to power the power-lines themselves. These are no good, they are just another way for big-corp to sell you power. |

Basically there are so many ways to cut the cost down. Also, higher royalties in the beginning. They milk people with higher costs to maximize potential profit. Profit is basically a bell curve. At 3000 they probably will make marginal profits of say 10-20%. After administrative and utility costs, they probably make like 2-5% if they're lucky. |

Actually they strip the hydrogen off the natural gas molecule and use that. There's a few companies that have been goofing around with fuel cells for years now. They just aren't economically feasable except the those willing to spend big bucks for the neato factor. Quoting: MaguyverSomeday, though, they will break that cost/benefit barrier with the masses. And what happens when natural gas peaks? Or can you use something like methane, which is in abundance, instead of natural gas? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 897688There would be so many negative repercussions to industry if that were allowed. For starters, can you imagine all the jobs and revenue lost in the area of electric companies and utility repair, maintenance, lineman, etc... While you are most likely correct about this not going mainstream, you are missing out on the fact that this does not hurt the utility companies as much as you think. The only utility companies hurt by this would be companies solely in damn electricity production. Since most electric companies are into damn electricity generation, as well as coal, nuclear (whats left), natual gas, solar, wind, etc.. Solar and wind are not likely to go away, so all this does is slowly changes an utility companies business model. It's hard to garner the actual savings this will translate too. Most likely you would see maybe a 10-20% drop overall. Thats only after say 10 years to make up the cost of the 3000 device. Factor in inflation and natural gas scares, and bam we're right where we are today. If not worse as their real agenda unfolds. |

It is promoted by TPTB because it uses natural gas, and it is better than free energy to them, like HHO or Browns Gas. Its not free energy they are selling, it is just another way of using natural gas. Its a giant elitist con, f*ck in the ass to all the free energy people out there. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 896300in 10 years you will see this tech in every household and yes, it will be MUCH more affordable It sure will I bet all gas companies are grinning now with the prospect of selling an expensive new fuel, that costs them less than the actual ones, but can be sold by double the price. It will make the price of natural gas double or triple, regardless we will still end up with $300 to $400 a month energy bills. Ebay says they saved $100k, but how much if natural gas doubles in price? Nada. |

BE SURE TO WATCH VIDEO IN ARTICLE The Future Of Energy? Bloom Energy Boxes Already Power Google, eBay, Others by MG Siegler on Feb 22, 2010 Over the past several years, there’s been no shortage of talk about alternative energy, and its potential to change the world. The problem is that most of it is just that — talk. But tonight, a report that aired on 60 Minutes showed one alternative that is not only real, it’s already being tested by companies such as Google and eBay. You simply have to watch this. Bloom Energy are producing tiny fuel cell boxes they call “Bloom Boxes.” Two of these can apparently power a U.S. home (and only one for homes in countries that use less power). So how small are they? Look at the picture above, each device isn’t much bigger than a standard brick. Of course, they need to be surrounded by a larger unit that takes in an energy source (such as natural gas). But still, these units look to be about the size of a refrigerator and can easily fit outside of a home, providing it with clean, cheap energy. Currently, these boxes cost some $700,000-$800,000, but eventually, founder K.R. Sridharenvisions one in every home — and he thinks he can get the cost below $3,000 for a unit to make that happen. And he’s talking a 5 to 10 year timeframe for this. Naturally, there are plenty who are skeptical of something like this ever working. There have been no shortage of fuel cell ideas over the years, but none get their own segment on 60 Minutes showing working units. And none get to highlight the fact that they’re already installed at companies like Google, eBay, FedEx and others. In fact, four of these Bloom Boxes have apparently been powering a Google datacenter for the past 18 months. eBay says their five boxes have saved them over $100,000 in electricity costs over the past nine months. Bloom Energy also has former Secretary of State Colin Powell on its board of directors, and he talked up the Bloom Boxes on 60 minutes tonight also. And the company has something in the neighborhood of $400 million in funding from the likes of Kleiner Perkins and others. Kleiner’s John Doerr is also featured heavily in the 60 Minutes segment, talking about why he thinks this company can change the world perhaps even in a more profound way that another company he backed, Google, has. Bloom Energy was Kleiner’s first green tech investment. Again, just watch the video and decide for yourself whether to be skeptical or amazed at this point. Right now, I’m definitely in the latter camp considering this thing is already being tested out. Apparently, Bloom Energy is due for a big formal public unveiling on Wednesday in San Jose (they have a countdown up on their site) —expect to hear a lot more then. [link to techcrunch.com] PIN THIS NOW!!!!!!!! first of all, its not new energy, second of all, we dont need these stupid fat boxes, when a man dressed in 18th century regalia can create INFINITE limitless energy using copper and magnets that is 1/64th of the size and cost of these boxes, why would we use these boxes? this isnt about change or newer energy, the its never been about that, people have made cars run off of water and of all things that doesnt catch on, this is about control. |
