Quoting: Anonymous Coward 548111LOL... bigger than any theyve ever seen before. This one could drop everything in the sky right into the sea if it whips itself back onto the surface. Chertoffs EMP scare was timely but I hope a CNN satellite falls in his pool. |

emerald_glow User ID: 881047 United States 02/22/2010 01:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Scientists are concerned about a large solar flare-up called a HYDER FLARE today. This is a good day to be watching the sun for doom. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 555241[link to www.spaceweather.com] "filament of magnetism" sound quite vague and strange to me...in fact never heard this expression Emerald_Glow |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 897835 United States 02/22/2010 01:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not even close to doom, it will miss us for couple million of kilometers. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 897863Quite impressive, tought. pffft, 1) there is not telling if it will miss us 2) if it collapses, anywhere between NOW and 5 days from now, IT WILL NOT MISS US 3) no telling what will happen if it does collapse. Could be nothing, could be total grid collapse. Could be something in between. BUT -seeing our magnetosphere is a mess -the Sun's heliosphere is a mess -the current solar cycle is missing, a mess, and doing weird shit -this is the largest one ever seen.... your comment is alarmingly off base |

I feel a bit uncomfortable with so many unknowns being bantered about, except that filament crashes onto the Sun surface can produce flares that "rival those by sunspots" as spaceweather.com states. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 866563 United States 02/22/2010 01:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Quoting: Anonymous Coward 555241 that does look ominous. someone posted a image of the flare thing yesterday, and i didn't know what it was, looked like a weird tube coming out of the sun. |
