A Large Safe and an Oxygen Tank

Is being in a safe and being safe the same thing?

My biggest fear is I will survive the impact but the safe gets knocked over and lands door facing down. I would then be forever trapped and my safe becomes a tomb.

I am thinking of putting it completely underground with the door facing up. That way when the tsunamis near, i will run out side and jump in the safe. When the door is closed, it is parallel to the ground, maybe a few inches under. This will increase the odds that the safe does not get banged around and I will be able to open the door unless some heavy lands on top if it (i'll take the chance)

I then will slowly let the water sink in, neutralize the pressure, swim up and out with my food, water, and raft.

i thought of building a steel reinforced capsule chained to some type of elevated bracket.. on a pole or something to move up and down if the water level rises.. filled with oxygen, food etc like you said, i think with a simple sturdy design your chances are excellent for initial survival.

I am modifying a large safe to be a sort of pod that I will be able to survive in when 2012 comes and there are mile high tsunamis. As this massive wave approaches I will lock myself in my padded safe where there are 2 oxygen tanks, food and water. After the massive tsunami hits, I will safely swim up with my inflatable raft and search for dry land.

Good luck trying to open that safe door in with a high pressure environment outside.

"I will have a small screw inserted into the safe. When it is nearing time for me to escape, I will remove the screw and slowly let the water leak in to neutralize the pressure. THen it should be easy to open the safe once it is completely filled with water."
