Anonymous Coward User ID: 839507 Finland 02/26/2010 02:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am modifying a large safe to be a sort of pod that I will be able to survive in when 2012 comes and there are mile high tsunamis. As this massive wave approaches I will lock myself in my padded safe where there are 2 oxygen tanks, food and water. After the massive tsunami hits, I will safely swim up with my inflatable raft and search for dry land. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 667950just do it! |
re User ID: 901256 United Kingdom 02/26/2010 02:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was thinking about surviving in a 2012 movie scenario and decided that it would so very much easier than you might expect to survive the initial wave. I was thinking of a round ball like pod with a loose rotating outer round shell that would turn and kinda ride the wave, or a ball that is fixed onto the ground that you can release after the initial wave goes over but you have to half submerge the ball in the ground so the wave would pas over it. Good luck im hoping to see the video on youtube regards jules |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 869087 United States 02/26/2010 02:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | YES, you will HAVE to releive external water pressure, which at only 10 feet IS 624 pounds PER square foot of the door. So, a six square foor door surface will have 3744 lbs pressure on it. At 30 foot depth, it will be 11,232 pounds to force open. Never depend on your arm muscles in such circumstances. Always use your legs, as they 5-7 times the muscle of bicepts. Avoid the whole mess, by moving NOW to mountains at LEAST 600-700 feet ABOVE sea level, AND, if possible, with intervening mountains BETWEEN YOU and the oncoming tsunami, as they will absorb the initial blow of the wave. My underground shelter is 740 feet above sea level, with two foot thick concrete reinforced walls and 10 inch I-beams on the concrete ceiling. All concrete can withstand 333 Lbs/sq. INCH overpressure, just in case there is a nuclear air burst nearby. There are several mountain ranges between myself and the sea. By the way, you have NOT thought about long term survival, where seeds, tools and plantable land are involved. THINK MORE; develope better plans, OR, just die slowly, instead of quickly. Peace. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 667950Yeah, a big one. Don't make something that stays under water, that would be a huge mistake as potentially it could be buried under a hundred feet of muck. Make something armored that is designed to float. A good start would be a standard shipping container. The kind you see on the highway. "Everybody lies." |
