LA has been running at 1 rad/hr. 1 rad/hr is the threshold number to consider evacuation of the civil populace if more is expected, 5 rad/hr is evacuate period. 5 rad/hr is the total allowable annual exposure for a US atomic plant worker. 5 hours in LA is already over the most liberal EPA spec for allowable exposure in the workplace. No one can legally show up to work due to legal restriction, and its not just LA, its most of the country at this point.

They have no choice really, what choice is it to outlaw most food and water sales, outlaw exposure to the very air you are breathing, and evacuate you to where?

Well, how else are they going to be able ot reduce the population by 5 billion or so?

If we are talking about radioisotope content, increasing the allowable content from .111 becquerel of radioactive Iodine to 111 becquerel would make water unsafe for infants to drink.

On the other hand if we are only talking about radiation (in sieverts, millisieverts, microsieverts, or rem), this would have little effect on human health perhaps.

So, this is a little vague.

Contamination is a much bigger risk than exposure.
