What is .0079 in miles and how will the Eaths gravity affect the object? How big is it?

One Astronomical Unit ~ 93 million miles ~ 150 million km.

And closest aproach to Earth this year is 0.00217 AU.
It was closer last year.
I don't know where you got 0.0079.


It will slightly change its orbit.
It will pass by again on 2015-Apr-08.

this seems like real news to me, 1/4 mile wide rock coming closer to us than the moon is

Actually 2005 YU55 was closest to the Sun Sept 8 - 12 2011 = 0.653 AU

It will be closest to the Earth on November 9 2011 = 0.0023 AU

November 9th is also, coincidently, the day that the FCC will be testing the NEW National Emergency Alert System (EAS) at 2 pm EST. Sort of makes one wonder if "they" know something we don't??

The closest approach to Earth and the Moon will be respectively 0.00217 AU and 0.00160 AU on 2011 November 8 at 23:28 and November 9 at 07:13 UT ..


Although classified as a potentially hazardous object, 2005 YU55 poses no threat of an Earth collision over at least the next 100 years. However, this will be the closest approach to date by an object this large that we know about in advance and an event of this type will not happen again until 2028 when asteroid (153814) 2001 WN5 will pass to within 0.6 lunar distances ..

in Orbit Diagram, 11 nov 2011 its 00079 near earth, but don't worry it's still far enuf, nothing will happen ;))
