Blount officer, 22, on leave in fatal shooting of 68-year-old homeownerLOUISVILLE — The Blount County Sheriff’s Office identified a 22-year-old deputy as the patrolman involved in a fatal shooting that killed a Louisville homeowner Wednesday night.Ernest Ti Ragland, who has been with the Sheriff’s Office since December, has been placed on administrative leave — per policy — pending the outcome of an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.Henry Taylor’s brother, Roger, 67, said Henry Taylor had served 20 years with the U.S. Air Force and 20 years with the postal service. Roger Taylor said his brother was known as Joe because of their mother.“I’m really worried about a cover-up,” he said. (No kidding!)
“(Ragland) said he was checking on a garage on the property when he saw a broken window and went to investigate it, then shined his flashlight inside the building and saw a man with a handgun,” the news release from Sheriff James Berrong states. “He told supervisors that he gave verbal commands, and fired multiple shots, striking Henry C. Taylor, 68, and killing him.”Authorities have not yet said whether Taylor was armed or whether a firearm was recovered from the scene.“It sounded like arguing and then I heard gunshots,” she said. “It was a constant six or seven shots back to back.”The deputy wanted to make sure the victim was good and dead, evidently.
