RAND report calls for 'agile' US Army Asia strategy

A new RAND Corp study outlining how the US Army should engage in the Asia-Pacific region appears to underscore the service's current strategy for bolstering its presence there.

However, the US Army does have between 84,000 and 88,000 soldiers assigned to the region, and it hopes that as rotations through Afghanistan slow it can utilize its presence in Asia for a variety of outreach and engagement efforts through a regionally aligned force (RAF) concept.
