Democracy dies in the Darkness

So I went to read an article linked on Drudge right now from the Washngtn Post...their entire website right now is covered in black banners, the one at the top saying "Democracy dies in the Darkness" right under the newspaper's logo.

What do you suppose that means? Could have a few different angles depending on how you interpret it. Either way, it's more than a little creepy.

Not sure how long it's been that way...I don't really go to mainstream news sites much...their all just laden will bullcrap and lies anyway.
