Venezuela’s Electric Grid Was Attacked From Abroad: Russia

Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Friday her country considers that Venezuela’s blackout was due to a cyber attack from abroad,

" Zakharova said and pointed out that "it was an attempt to remotely influence control systems at major electrical substations where Canadian-made equipment is installed."

“If we receive an official request for expert assistance, we will give it proper attention," Zakharova said in relation to a recent statement by President Maduro’s through which he announced that his country will ask Russia, China, Iran and Cuba to assist in investigating the attack on the electricity grid.

There are mounting signs of military planning for Venezuela

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo ordered all U.S. diplomats to leave Venezuela, saying their presence there “has become a constraint on U.S. policy,” hinting at opening potential military options.

Speculation about a military assault on Venezuela was also fueled by Trump’s recent appointment of a former George W. Bush administration official who was an architect of the Iraq War, Elliot Abrams, to be the new “Special Representative for Venezuela.”

An invasion of Venezuela would require between 100,000 and 150,000 U.S. troops, who would face as many as 356,000 Venezuelan troops in a country twice the size of Iraq, said Rebecca Chavez, senior fellow at the Inter-American Dialogue, during testimony at the House hearing.

In Yaracuy, Venezuela the GNB has started clearing the areas around the Carbonero and Marin Electric Substations from plants and grass. Poor maintenance of the areas surrounding electricity infrastructure is thought to be part of the cause of the nationwide blackout

The obvious answer to clearing the areas AROUND the substations would be to make it harder for saboteurs to sneak up to them unseen.

Yesterday the news was that only a few flights out remained. What airlines, I wonder, and how can they have their planes just sitting there making no money?

How many Americans left to bring out? Are there enough flights for all who wish to leave?
