CoViD-19 Appears to Affect Smokers Less
This is the first study I've seen on a group of Wuhan patients and the results are dumbfounding. In addition to the data presented below, the average age in the study was 57, so it appears that Kung Flu prefers healthy, developed lungs. I've only read a few pages of this, so everybody dig in and see if you come to the same conclusions.

smokers are not affected: Asthma or other allergic diseases was not reported by any of the patients. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, 1.4%) and current smokers (1.4%) were rare.

Just when I give up on the Asians-only conspiracy, here comes another monkey wrench.

Please don't any of you smokers out there think you're out of the woods, though. There were smokers in the sample, albeit a statistically very small number relative to the percentage of smokers in China.

I wonder what the percentage of vapers there were in the study and if that has the same effect. My wife and I were both 15-year smokers who switched about 4 years ago.

Well, it never did me any good with regular colds. Every time I got a cold, before I switched to vaping, I would get bronchitis and it would last a month. I smoked American Spirits, incidentally, not the trash cigarettes.

Well Fuck.. Now they will use this to drive up the price even more on a pack of butts.
We do not learn from history because our studies are brief and prejudiced. In a surprising manner, 250 years emerges as the average length of national greatness. This average has not varied for 3,000years. The stages of the rise and fall of great nations seem to be:
The Age of Pioneers , The Age of Conquests ,The Age of Commerce ,The Age of Affluence ,The Age of Intellect ,The Age of Decadence.
Decadence is marked by: Defensiveness, Pessimism, Materialism,Frivolity An influx of foreigners The Welfare State A weakening of religion. Decadence is due to: Too long a period of wealth and power, Selfishness Love of money ,The loss of a sense of duty.
The life histories of great states are amazingly similar, and are due to internal factors. Their falls are diverse, because they are largely the result of external causes. - Sir John Glubb The Fate of Empires

But is it because tobacco is a fast growing plant or other special properties?

They give the plant coronavirus virus and then sees if it develops antibodies. I didn't know they could give plants viruses, is that really a good idea in the long run?

I just quit smoking so that I can get back surgery next month, so I'd really like to know if that's a mistake right now.

I see a few possible explanations there. Please, take with a grain of salt.

First, smoker's lung/lung cells are "cleared" more often due to harmful effect of smoking. This is why long-time smokers have morning coughs and why some life-long smokers eventually get nasty diseases. But it may be beneficial short-term with nCoV.

Second, smoking/nicotine changes something in the lungs at biochemical level. I remember talks that smoking constricts smaller blood vessels. This alone may be enough for the immune system to fight the virus faster.

Third, and I think the most probable one. Our bodies are trained to the stress and bad stuff in our lungs, so... virus. what virus? We did not even notice any virus and become asymptomatic/mild cases.

Which means 70% of Chinese make up 98.57% of CoViD cases, and the other 30% make up 1.43%. If this study used a representative sample, and by their language that indicates they are baffled by that data point, it appears to be, this sounds like a real thing.

A conundrum, to be sure. Maybe the theory is flawed because the smokers all just stayed indoors in order to continue smoking when the outbreak started.

Nicotine stops a cytokine storm.

The nicotine molecules bind to the cytokine receptors and stop the cascading reaction.

Known for a long time but suppressed - it's why you see the guys smoking pipes in those woodcuts depicting them burying bodies from the great plague.

Real tobacco comes from a plant. It's all the chemical crap businesses dump off at the tobacco companies that go into the making of cigarettes. (Search that out and you will see what I mean.)

Native Americans smoked natural tobacco for 3,000 years and never got lung cancer. What they smoked was pure tobacco from the plant.

I'm definitely familiar with that. When I smoked, at least the last few years, it was American Spirits, and the organic kind whenever I could find them. I definitely was a far superior smoke to the Camels that I smoked for the first ten years and now that I think about it, I don't think I got as sick as I did when I smoked Camels, although when I get sick now, as a vaper, it's significantly milder and shorter in duration than even when I smoked American Spirits.

I would really like to see the statistics on vapers within this study. Wonder if there were ANY of them. They mentioned smokers and ex-smokers, after all, so why no mention of vapers? I'm sure China has plenty of them. After all, China is where ALL the vape equipment is made.

I agree. This study was done on too small a sample, but it's very interesting. I've read, for years, that smokers did better with Spanish Flu because it suppressed the cytokine storm response, so I'm predisposed to think there's something there, but I would definitely like to see a much larger study done.
