Why Bristol Palin's Pregnancy Is Relevant | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 380553 United States 09/02/2008 10:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hypocrisy on the part of the left. The Palins are doing EXACTLY what they hope the rest of the country of the country would do: choose to carry the baby and support the mother with the love of family. No one is claiming that Bristol made an responsible choice in getting pregnant. But she is making a responsible choice by carrying the baby. Abortion is the easy way out that liberals like to push as part of their enlightened agenda of "choice without consequences" agenda: as long as you submit to the enlightened wisdom of socialism under the effecient care of the political left and their psuedo-intellectual supporters you can have sex without babies and poverty without discomfort. Given that propaganda it's no surprise that people choose that life. And since people tend to learn from their environment the liberal agenda of government instead of family has led to generations of people mistaking government support and government freedom from responsibility as preferable to the love of family and the freedom that comes from understanding the consequences of decisions and choosing accordingly. So for the liberals to turn around and assail the Palins for dealing with the consequences of a poor choice in a responsible manner is not only ignorantly hypocritical, is smacks of desperation. The Palins should be applauded for doing the right thing, not attacked on political terms. They lived up to their convictions. That's more than I can say for most people, conservative or liberal. |

I believe she did live up to her convictions by advocating abstinence until marriage to her children. That doesn't mean Sarah Palin could remove free will from her kids until they marry. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 495244LOL! Apparently, she was supposed to keep her locked in a basement or a high tower until they could find a suitable husband to marry her to. I remember being 16 to 18 years old. There was VERY little my mother could do to control me. I'd bought a car with my own money it was in my name and had a job to pay for it. Short of kicking me out, what was a parent supposed to do? The tighter the reigns of control a parent tries to place on a child THAT old, the harder that child will rebel or resent. No, they did NOT live up to their abstinence-only education convictions. She disobeyed her parents. 17 year olds do that. It would have been easy and politically expedient to have a hush hush abortion as soon as they found out. But they didn't. Those are the convictions we're talking about. It's not about abstinence- although abstinence certainly would have prevented this episode and this validates what they are saying: sex has consequences. It's about taking responsibility when it isn't an easy thing to do. A person can abstain from sex when they are not ready for the consequences which is making the responsible choice on the front end, or they can be responsible and deal with the consequences on the back end. |

Her daughter made the decision to NOT have an abortion. Pro Life is what it is called. You never know, Chelsea Clinton may have had an abortion at the age of 16 or 17. Michelle Obama may have had an abortion. 17 year olds get pregnant every day. As someone said earlier, it's difficult for parents to control every move their teenagers make when hormones kick in.
