Doctors said yesterday that they would continue a strike that has left several state hospitals operating on emergency staff as employees of the Public Power Corporation vowed to press on with protest action expected to cause electricity shortages across the country.
In a related development yesterday, civil servants joined a protest rally by their union ADEDY, which claims that the government's austerity measures have unfairly targeted the public sector. The rally was marred by isolated outbreaks of violence involving self-styled anarchists hurling rocks at police who responded with tear gas. ADEDY, which has staged three 24-hour strikes over the past month, has already called another protest rally for next Tuesday and warned of fresh strike action on a date to be set soon. In Thessaloniki, teachers protesting cuts to holiday pay also staged a march.
Gas station owners are due to stage a 24-hour strike tomorrow, in protest at increases in fuel tax.

UPDATE:
Tomorrow I would keep my eye out for rioting...to those in the area, be safe. Also with the media going on strike, it'll be hard to tell what's going on. But since I live in the Athens center I can tell you what I am witnessing...as long as my electricity doesn't go out.
Greek strike to shut down services Thursday The Associated Press Wednesday, March 17, 2010 | 12:08 a.m.
Greek unions say nationwide strikes will shut down all public services, closing schools, customs and tax offices, halting public transport and grounding flights for 24 hours.
Greeks have been protesting the Socialist government's harsh austerity measures, designed to curb the country's massive debt and pull it out of an unprecedented financial crisis that has hammered the euro. The measures have cut civil servants' salaries, frozen pensions and increased taxes, including on fuel and general sales tax.
Workers are to walk off the job from midnight Wednesday night.
Journalists, teachers, state hospital doctors and air traffic controllers will be among those striking, while officers from the police, fire service and coast guard plan to join protest rallies.
