You know that people are capable of evil, but they are also capable of incompetence. When someone is thoughtless of you, are you eager to attribute it to a deliberate slight, or do you think they may just be unaware? In many cases there are multiple explanations for a given behavior and you are not able to determine the true underlying motive from superficial observations. I can judge the thoughts and intents of the heart, but you cannot. In these cases it is better for you to assume the most benign intentions the facts will allow, rather than the harsher judgment of evil intent. In this way judge others as you would have them judge you.
