[quote:Anonymous Coward 1005671:MV8xMTI0NTc0XzE4MDA2Nzk3X0E0QTgzMzdE] [quote:Anonymous Coward 907254] Who told you this, They? Simple math. Lab results show 430 ppm of Proplyene Glycol in Gulf water, not oil, water! Propylene Glycol is 1-5% in corexit. To achieve 430 ppm of Propylene Glycol in water, 8,600 to 43,000 ppm of Corexit would be needed. 430 parts per million is NOT 4% corexit in water. I am not saying this is okay, but let's be real here. Prop. G. is around 4% in corexit, corexit is 430 ppm...
If you had 4% Corexit in the water, it would read as 40,000 ppm. 40,000/1,000,000 = 4/100 = 4% If there is 430 ppm of Propylene Glycol in the water, there must be anywhere from 8,600 ppm to 43,000 ppm of Corexit to allow such a high enough concentration of Propylene Glycol. Corexit has 1-5% Propylene Glycol. So 430 ppm is 1-5% of the corexit in the water. 430 ppm * 20 = 8,600 ppm AND 430 ppm * 100 = 43,000 ppm..........GET IT?! Your math is fail!!!
Many thanks to the OP who posted this thread.
Thread: Oil/Water samples from Gulf...VERY TOXIC
The math deserves it's own thread. I looked up the MSDS Sheet for Corexit used in the Gulf. Propylene Glycol makes up 1% to 5% of Corexit.
So multiply the Propylene Glycol content by 20 to 100 and that will express the general concentration of Corexit in the water.
In order to have such levels there must be UNIMAGINABLE amounts of corexit being dumped.
Not only does this show how toxic the water is, but the use of corexit is representative of just how much oil is out there spilling out daily.
