[quote:Anonymous Coward 1028361:MV8xMTMyMzM2XzE4MTU2NzQwX0VBMjVCQ0Iy] I own two Miniature Schnauzers, which are believe it or not, hunting breed ______________________ When we got our Lab puppy 6 years ago, being a Bird Dog, I had to make him afraid of birds: we have three parrots. So, I held him tightly to introduce him to the big macaw - she lunged and hissed at him (which is what I WANTED her to do - lol) so he learned right away to Stay Away. I knew she wouldn't bite him, maybe a good beak peck and that's it. Have done this with the three cats in the house, too - they know that them inside birds AIN'T like the outside birds... [/quote]

OK, I know this is a doom forum, so don't bash me--this could be doom for my own little household. We have a 5 year old cat we rescued from a shelter 3 years ago. She is fully declawed (was when we got her) and is pretty scared of everything. Never comes out when people are over, etc. Bit us at first but is great now.
Today we are bringing home a rescued dog. He's pretty small, about a year old, wasn't abused but not treated very well (left tied outside). So ... what should I expect and any tips on how to get the female cat and male dog used to each other. The dog has a large crate. Should I keep him in it for awhile at first?
Thanks! And no Nancy Lieder jokes please!
