Remember the major snowstorm that hit the East Coast this time last year? Looks like we might get a repeat, almost to the day. A local forecaster in Richmond, David Tolleras (who predicted all 4 major storms for the Mid-Atlantic last year more accurately than the NWS) has made the following call. I am paraphrasing: A strong piece of energy located in California will follow the Southern Jet stream across the Southwest to Texas by Friday. This is the ‘seed’ energy for the storm. The fertilizer to make this storm affect Richmond north to Boston is a piece of energy located over Minnesota, right now. If this drops south through the Midwest and merges with the ‘seed’ system, we will see 12”+ from Richmond to Boston. If they do not merge, the system will move off of Cape Hatteras and only southwest and Central Virginia will see the storm. I am in Richmond and usually love to see the rare snow we get. We got a couple of inches, yesterday and I put my truck in a ditch. First time I ever lost control of my vehicle in 30 years of driving. I am loading up the bed of my truck with a couple hundred pounds of something this afternoon because David is predicting 3-5” of snow for Thursday. The ass-end of my truck will not go somewhere the front end does not, again. Anyway, just wanted to give a warning to all East Coast GLPers for the 19-20th. Also, be aware that he is predicting arctic temperatures thru the 24th, so the snow that falls will stay. There will be snow on the ground for Christmas.
