Vuk and Verica Nastic, Serbs who live in state of California, have been going through a real agony with CPA (Child Protection Advocacy) for the past six months.
Vuk was employed as an economics analyst, and on one occasion he took his work computer for a repair at an IT store. There were over 2000 personal family photographs on his hard drive. At first, he was fired for using his work computer for personal needs, after which the things were about to get much worse.
About twenty photographs have been characterized as “problematic’”. Those who appear on the ‘problematic’ photos are his son Damjan (8) and daughter Nastasija (5), appearing naked, and on some of the photos in their bath tub. On one of the photographs, shot in the summer, is Damjan half-naked pointing his hands towards the legs, or another one where Nastasija is showing her behind.
The parents was even taken into custody and later released: bailout for Vuk $18.000, with Verica being released after six days. Their son and daughter have been handed to a Mexican foster family with no children after which the court is about to decide whether to separate them and put them into different homes. The statement was taken from the children where they say that some of the photographs were taken by Damjan while playing, which can also be noticed by the quality and position of the photograph.
Out of three accusations; for being careless to their children, emotionally abusive, and the risk of sexual harassment, only the first one was kept.
However CPA started with new pressures on the children, says Vuk Nastic. The accusations for “emotional pain” and sexual harassment have been reestablished, and as a proof they mention the video with the conversation according to which it was concluded that their father was sexually harassed them with the awareness of their mother.
“I bathed my children, washed their face, of course I was touching their body. It is unbelievable that they can systematically brainwash and molest a five year old like that”, said father while in obvious shock.
“Social psychiatrist had threatened Damjan telling him he could not see his parents unless he accuses his father. Verica’s lawyer suggested us to file for divorce in order for her to try fighting for the custody.” Vuk continues.
Our consul took his interest in the matter and on couple of occasions communicated with CPA complaining about discrimination upon Nastic family. As a consequence CPA complained to the State Department stating that Serbian Consulate puts pressure on them.
Since the “problematic” photographs contain also the photos of children having a bath in the bathe tub, Nastic family has also spoken to the most prominent Serbian psychiatrists: Zarko Trebjesanin, Zoran Milivojevic, and Zarko Korac. They have sent a letter to the court explaining the cultural differences between Americans and Serbs. The goal of Nastic family is to point out the fact that in Serbia it is a normal thing to take photographs of your own children while they are having a bath.
